Gotta Watch: Dr. Seuss turns 108

Dr.Seuss was born on March 2, 1904. He gave us stories like "The Lorax," "The Cat in the Hat" and much more. Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote books for all ages, with whimsical characters, rhyming and new phrases. Between a Grinch who stole Christmas, Sneetches and Thneeds, Dr. Seuss had an impact that all generations can see. So whether its "Green Eggs and Ham" or "Horton Hears a Who" we want to wish a very happy 108th birthday to you!

'The Lorax' leaps to life on big screen

Truffula trees come to life and roam free in this sneak peak of ‘The Lorax’ that’s playing in 3D. With a cast like Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Betty White to name a few, there’s no telling what this movie has in store for you.

'Suessologist' uncovers lost Seuss books

One man found a collection of Dr. Seuss stories that are new. It’s amazing what a bit of sleuthing can do. Just when you thought no more could be found, seven Seuss treasures collected and bound.

2004: Dr. Seuss gets Hollywood star

In 2004 you didn’t have to look far. Dr. Seuss finally got his Hollywood star. Kids read from his books and his wife was there too. To honor the life and achievement of the man we once knew.

My nephew's birthday is today too. He thinks it's so cool that he has the same birthday as Dr. Seuss. 🙂

No, I am fairly sure he isnt 108 because he's dead. Its like saying Napoleon is going to be 243 years old this year.

Thank you. After a person dies, they no longer turn a year older. We can celebrate the day of their birth but Dr. Suess is NOT 108.

      We celebrate tWashington's, Lincoln's and MLK's birthday.
Why not celebratea man who has given so much to the world of children's books?

Nobody said that we shouldn't celebrate his birthday. The poster was merely pointing out that the article completely left out the fact that he died in 1991.

      Marshall:
This was also aimed at everyone else pointing out that he's dead; I accidently put it here.
I was merely pointing out that those folks were also deceased.

      CR: True.
      Not on CNN, anyway.
But this is also a campaign for children's literacy.
And you can bet a teacher uses these birthdays in the classroom to teach math, also...not a bad thing, IMO.

I saw this article last year, and I'll probably see it next year, also.

Today Dr Seuss turns 108. Without him I'd have no green eggs on my plate
No sneetches, no lorax, no Grinch, or the Who's, So crack open a beer or a bottle of booze
A toast to the cat with the barber's chapeau, and the man who first marveled at the places I'd go.

It's hard to have any respect for him. He kept coming down from Olympus, and forcing himself on the poor mortal women. Then when the baby was born, his wife would take out her anger on the woman. Not fair.

He didn't turn 108. He's dead. He's been dead for a long time. What is it with these ridiculous headlines? Yes, it would be his 108th birthday, no he didn't turn 108 today.

I don't know if putting socks on a fox would be torture. He would just rip them off with his teeth if he didn't want them.
