HBO Films' much-anticipated movie "Game Change" premieres Saturday, March 10 at 9pm. The movie follows the rise and fall of John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign with Sarah Palin as his running mate. Ed Harris and Julianne Moore star as McCain and Palin. CNN and HBO are both owned by Time Warner.
Both McCain and Palin have criticized the movie, even though both have said they have not seen it. Palin's own SarahPAC has posted an official statement calling the movie "at best historical fiction," and has posted a rebuttal trailer.
Here are some of Sarah Palin's key moments from 2008. Bryan Monroe, Editor of CNNPolitics.com, offers his take on what these moments meant for the McCain-Palin ticket, and for politics.
2008: Palin: I'm an outsider
In this first video, then-Alaska governor Sarah Palin makes her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. Bryan says, “this was America’s introduction to the governor from Wasilla, Alaska. We didn’t know her, but many had an instant, and strong, reaction to her. We – and she –didn’t really know what was going to happen over the next three months of the campaign. But on this night, she shined.”
2008: Palin: Don't question Israel
As the campaign progressed, Sarah Palin stumbled, as seen in an interview with Katie Couric. Bryan notes this moment was important: "Here, she was awkward and stumbling over some pretty basic questions from Couric. This was also part of the larger piece where she had trouble identifying which newspapers and magazines she reads. This was the first big moment when some Americans started to scratch their heads, wonder if this was such a good idea to have her a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
2008: Tina Fey, Sarah Palin meet on 'SNL"
America embraced Tina Fey's portrayal of Mrs. Palin in comedy skits on "Saturday Night Live." As Bryan remembers these skits, “some would argue that Sarah Palin saved the 2008 season for 'Saturday Night Live.' Tina Fey played her spot-on and Palin took it all in good fun. But that moment where the two women in the red dresses passed each other… AWKWARD!”
2008: Sarah Palin's last pre-election speech
On November 3, 2008, Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin delivered her last speech to voters the night before election day. As Bryan notes, "this speech was certainly an indicator of things to come. A defiant Palin was clearly not ready to leave the political limelight, not yet. As we have seen since, she still had a whole lot more politicken’ left in her. No matter what people think of her, Sarah Palin has certainly changed the game of politics.”
When I saw the Katie Couric interview and she could not name one Newspaper or Magazine she read I knew right then that I would never vote for McCain, BECAUSE of HER. Up to that point I had planned on voting for McCain. I knew then that she was an ill informed lightweight that had no business anywhere near the White House. After she did not win and continued to prove how intellectually deficiant she was I was relieved McCain did not win. The final straw for me was when she celebrated the fact that she was an intelligence wasteland and called anyone with a different opinion or a brain "unAmerican". I left the Republican party and became a registered Independant. She is a Game Changer alright, she personally killed the Republican party. How can she be so proud of being ignorant and vacuous is beyond me. Wanting our leaders to be smart and capable seems a reasonable expectation.
yea, you were set to vote Republican until that moment.....please, at least admit you saw Obama say he visited 57 states and was concerned with children with asthma using a breathalyzer! if you like living in a glass trailer home, at least don't park it next to a rock quarry!
Hope many times can you people keep saying "Sarah Palin" is dumb as rocks and still thing you are being cute or amusing. The peope who author these posts are the most witless, uncreative lot, rehashing the same things over and over. You ever see a group of kids and the dumbest ones are always looking for someone to make fun of, but really they should just sit down in front of a mirror.
Was a Republican until "W" was appointed and anointed leader of the Republican Party; I tore up my voter registration card which had proudly reflected Republican for so many years and became an Independent. Have voted Democrat ever since except in local elections. I knew some of W's history and it was obvious to me that he was/is a fool. How or why the GOP would tap him to head the Party was a mystery until a personal epiphany revealed to me that he could be easily manipulated like pulling the strings of a puppet. Bush-the-junior was never in charge.
I could say a lot more on my observations of the Republican Party but will leave it as stated above.
And so,Sarah, I also claim to be an Independent and I will vote Republican again, only, when they shed the religious extremism which strangles the Party and when the GOP moves more to the center. I would like for the Party to represent the people of this country and less on representing the corporations and rich. Guess that will never happen. Obama 2012!
When making the movie, in order to give a more realistic portrayal of Sarah Palin, actress Julianne Moore wrote her lines on her hand.
Sarah Palin is wonderful.
She along with Santorum, believe the world is only four thousand years old, after all that's what it says in the bible. Sarah Palin and Santorium and others like them are such airheads I would like them to explain where fossils come from and try to explain where the air we breath comes from. They are both wonderful
I hear this right wing Christian radiio program state that the fossils and bones were put there by God to test man's faith. Sorry, I can't see God going around planting bones in the earth, just to see how we would react.
yes I tried asking this born again christian if the earth was only 7 thousand years old (that's how old she thought it was) then why do scientists see evidence in fossils and carbon dating and things like that that the earth is billions of years old. and she looked at me with pity and replied (shaking her head) "Jason, Don't you think if God created the Earth he could make it look older than it is?" give me a break. lol. you can't argue with these people logically.
Are you over compensating for something by posting in full caps or what? Laugh at her if you want but she can buy and sell you over breakfast.
She can buy and sell people–and does–because some people are so happy to be brainwashed into supporting her. Doesn't say much for them (you are obviously one of them) or her. So what are you crowing about? Are you simply clueless enough to not see this? Apparently so.
No she cannot buy or sell me over breakfast but any fruit seller can certainly buy and sell her because she is nothing but a fruit.
her husbad Todd seems to have bought and sold a lot of young Alaskan women. Read Shailey Tripp's book, "boys will be boys". Todd was pimping for big oil for a long time.
I'm confused about Mike Buck's positon. Think of living in Alaska like being a shareholder in a company. If they company makes money, you get a divident (about $1,200 total per resident last year – as long as you didn't get convicted of a felony or were incarcerated). Alaska is beautiful – perhaps if you visited you might appreciate it more.
@scranton And, as a loyal conservative right winger, Sarah would like the ability to buy and sell people as property.
Ok i'll laugh. Especially at your silly post.
The reason Sarah Palin can buy and sell people for breakfast is that she may not understand that the queen of England is a figure head, and may not understand why Korea is divided into 2 countries, but she understands how to get money out of ignorant rubes.
scranton,
"Laugh at her if you want but she can buy and sell you over breakfast."
So can Mike Tyson. What was your point?
Money doesn't buy common sense or basic intelligence!
And she's still an idiot
She has spoken in tongues. Say no more.
Believe in America. Believe also in Cayman Islands.
Nut Job
Sarah Palin certainly made some mistakes but she is not nearly as bad as the left likes to make her out to be. No rational person can possibly think President Obama had more experience than she did. She was attacked in ways that if the right attacked a woman in the same way, they would have been attacked for the attack. Etc. Etc.
What is most troubling is that many will think this movie is true when it will likely, based upon any reasonable interpretation of who is doing it and why, be all fiction. Revisionist history. It has been successful in the past and it will likely be successful again here.
She is an Idiot. as much as GW Bush.
GOP is the Inbred party of America!
no people like felipebr who jump on the democratic bandwagon and have no idea the freedoms the democratic party are taking away from us are the idiots
LOL She is brain-damaged! Sarah is a parody of herself. She's soooooooooooo beyond stupid, she makes stupid look smart in comparison.
Sarah, "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!!!"
Sarah proved how prepared she was to govern by quitting the governorship prematurely and abruptly.
it is not that S Palin had less experience in a political or public life; she had never immersed herself in the large issues of society, nations or economy. She was a more or less an ordinary person concerned with living, eating, brushing her teeth and her family. She didn't study politics, philosophy, economics, the PPE degree. Nothing wrong with that- its what most of us choose. That chosen experience plus a fairly hum drum brain, and again, most of us, do not prepare you for center stage of the world for a 24/7 job. Although one could recite a few lines in a vivacious manner and withdraw to thunderous applause at least a few times.
ACtually no rational person would post what you did. You obviously are all in favor of revisionist history as long as you are the one coming up with the revisions. What a hoot!
Revisionist history? You mean like Paul Revere "ridin' through town on his horse" warning the British that they "would't be takin' our arms!"?
*** Sarah Palin certainly made some mistakes but she is not nearly as bad as the left likes to make her out to be.
Death panels, yup death panels,
Obama is going to kill your grandma.
This is not a mistake, its flat out lying.
Hey double standard,
politics is politics,
but flat out lying ?
When called out about it by the media,
instead of correcting herself, she attacks the media.
Lying BIMBO !
She was attacked in ways that if the right attacked a woman in the same way, they would have been attacked for the attack.
Short memory huh ?
The right was brutal towards Hillary Clinton.
Hillary is tough, and she shook it off.
Sarah went around screaming "unfair"...."Lame stream media".
Sarah Palin would say something stupid, and blame the media for printing it.
As another poster said......BOX OF ROCKS !
ahh my future ex wife
This womaqn was and remains an idiot. Can we just stop talking about her?
Suppose you start?
I knew that Sarah Palin was a mistake when the McCain Campaign first introduced her in Dayton, OH and told the press that the "FBI had vetted Sarah Palin". That was on a Friday, and the following Monday the FBI released a press statement announcing that the FBI does not vet political candidates. Suddenly I knew that Sarah Palin was a last minute fill-in, because no one else wanted the VP Nomination. I look forward to seeing the movie to see if the FBI Statement is included. History is a great thing, and the media saves everything.
MIstake? Their ticket's polls shot up after she came on board. Obama was inevitable. FIrst black (well, he's actually half white and 45% Arabic) President, great orator, likes hip-hop music, etc. Come on, he is a great politician. A radical left winger, but a great politician. Who do you think McCain could have put on his ticket that would have made him win?
** Who do you think McCain could have put on his ticket that would have made him win?
A dead Ronald Reagan ?
A live Jesus Christ ?
The real Santa claus ?
I give up.
All the liberals will eventually see the errior of their ways, like ot or not. Palin will not be the "crazy" when that day comes. Just look at the agonies of Greece... And as Maggie Thatcher said "What will you do once you have finished spending everyone else's money?"
IF that happens, we will have been put there by the likes of Reagan and George W. not by Clinton or Obama. The GOP is the party of deficits.
..."the eerior of their ways"? Have been reading Sarah's palm again?
Sure. Everyone is wrong but you and little Sarah. Can you spell "brainwashed?" I bet not.
"What will you do once you have finished spending everyone else's money?"
Worked pretty good for eight years under Bush.
Now the bill has come past due, and Obama is cleaning up the mess.
Thanks for playing.
We love you Sarah Palin. My family and friends will support you all the way.
For your statement, your name should be ZANY, not Zeny.
We love you Sarah Palin. My family and friends are brain damaged.
Yeah that is what you do, support her, in life of luxury. B/C she will never hold office.
I think its funny and sad at the same time. She exposes the Hate of the left wing socialist party as they get a free pass from the communist media to say anything . Sad times in America.
Your comment is funny and sad at the same time. Do you really believe what you posted. Yes, you are very funny, and very, very sad if you feel so persecuted and even more so if you believe a single thing this manipulative, totally self-centered woman says.
You forgot to mention the Muslim marxist without a birth certificate,
who sold your country to china and eats your children.
