[Updated at 1:48 p.m. ET] At least one person was killed and at least two others were injured in a shooting Wednesday at a Texas courthouse, a judge said.
The shooting occurred outside a courthouse in Jefferson County, Texas, Judge Larry Gist said.
"There was a defendant on trial. It was break time, lunchtime, and he apparently shot three people, maybe four," Gist told CNN.
A witness in the case against the suspect was one of those shot, said Gist, who had left the courthouse for lunch and heard shots fired from a block away.
Police shot the suspect, and the courthouse was evacuated after the shooting, Gist said.

Unbelievable; what a sad testimony of today's mentality concerning consequences for a person's actions. Let's make the matter worse, while attempting to get out of the trouble you r brought upon yourself by shooting someone who's attempting to affect justice.
don't they have metal detectors as you enter any courthouse in America?
Hi, Jj.
Most courthouses do have them, but this occurred outside while on lunch break, so maybe he had the gun in his car...
I am hoping the one killed was the suspect shooter. Waiting for the onslaught of comments about gun control....
Apparently, someone thought the judicial system wasn't working.
The DEFENDANT in the trial was the one who shot the people.
Apparently, SECURITY isn't working.
The peopson who died was an elderly woman.
My condolences to her family.
" Sad testimony of today's mentality" aptly said.
Penchant for violence seems to permeate our psyche ( or has it always been there?) from homes to schools to courthouses.
Violence is what we witness everyday when we switch on our TVs or unfold morning papers. I see bloggers gloating over 'kill & bomb' scenarios advocating more of the same.
God help us.
The DEVIL is "alive and well" FOR NOW !! Stopped in Texas
for destruction on his "snakey" way to somewhere else
I ask you Lord to foil any plan the creep has impending...
How sad....may she rest in peace.
I hafta agree on this one... the security is obviously *blind*
These kind of mistakes are absolutely unacceptable.
COULD WE HAVE SOME ADULT JOURNALIST PLEASE
Ohhh Boy!
Had to laugh at the Devil post... remember
he took a third of God's angels with him. But,
this jerk acted on his own accord. The Devil
made me do it, is no longer a valid excuse.
Flip Wilson aside, it never really was in a court of law, lol.
Better call Guiness, mary agreed with banasy!
The futility of these kinds of act is mainly felt by the families who lost a loved 1 & those who were injured! No 1 knows what difficulties they will have to face, maybe for life! If it's this easy to change 4 peoples lives forever, including their families & friends, perhaps gun regulations should be revisited! This was not an accident, it was a deliberate act by a person so enraged he used his easy access to a gun & changed 4 peoples lives forever, in probably less than a minute! Horriffic!!
