Gotta Watch: Wild antics on 'Toddlers and Tiaras'

Alana Thompson is the 6-year-old known as “Honey Boo Boo Child” on TLC’s “Toddlers and Tiaras.” Her huge personality and hilarious antics made her a favorite on the reality show, but she and her mother have also been the subject of several controversies this year. Alana has been seen using “pageant crack” and dancing on a bar. Yesterday, mother June Shannon defended her daughter on HLN. You’ve Gotta Watch this pageant family.

Not a ‘sleazy bar’

Alana Thompson’s mom sets the record straight on the notorious video showing the little girl dancing on a bar for dollars. Learn why she defends the event.

Bar dancing

If you missed the video that caused this controversy in the first place, we’ve got it for you. This YouTube video shows Alana dancing on top of a bar. You’ve got to see what she’s wearing.

‘Pageant crack’

How do those tiara-wearing toddlers get so peppy onstage? Many of them inhale sugary Pixie Stix to get an energy boost. Watch to decide what’s in Honey Boo Boo’s mysterious “go-go juice.” CNN’s Anderson Cooper pokes fun at the practice on his RidicuList.

During the interview with the mom and the daughter, the child looks medicated/doped up. That's even scarier than the bar dancing....

As a person who was recently indoctrinated by my niece, into the world of pageants, I know that many of the girls involved love the whole process! My niece is old enough to decide for herself that this was what she wants to do right now! She's a natural onstage & has taken many titles! My sis is very protective & is the final word on any particular pageant! She doesn't like the TnT contests, because it caters too much to the participants of their show! We both think putting babies in this type of contest is redundant & putting little girls in ho.ochie outfits is degrading & dangerous! Luckily, because of my sisters monitoring & being the last word on my nieces costumery, my niece is having a fun, safe time participating in an activity she truly enjoys! Next year she'll probably be in riding gear, hanging at the stables! The show caters to the extremes of this world because it's "entertaining", the reality of it is too tame for Reality TV!!

Funny you should describe yourself as "indoctrinated". Good luck with that. The rest of us can only hope that these children are also being exposed to core values and true goodness. The outside is easy to decorate, the inside takes time to develop into kind, generous, thoughtful adults.

I have, thru methods CNN wont let me post, recently been introduced to the world of pageants & was at a TnT contest a few weeks ago! What I saw was parents who doted on their kids, little girls who loved getting dolled up & families who were in it together! My personal experience is that the person I know(who shal remain a mystery per CNN regulations), loves doing this, it's her idea & she has a mother who monitors the situation closely! TnT focuses on the extremes of the pageant world because it's "entertaining"! The reality of it wouln't make it to any TV show, Reality or otherwise!!

Was this kid there, fernace?what's the story about this doting mom letting her doting kid dance on the doting bar for doting drunken folks? It's all in editing, right, but this "Mom" had pimped out her kid, no two ways about it!

Child abuse plain and simple! The program that exploits these little children should be illegal and the parents held accountable.

In some near future, post-apocalyptic world, parents will subject their young children to become some bizarre pseudo-entertainment for the dregs of society. They will slather disgusting amounts of make-up on them in order to make them seem like some perverse, small versions of loose adult women, while "adults" with double digit IQ's and no moral fibre will drool over them. What? It's already happening? But I was just joking. Nothing like that could ever realy happen.

These parents should be arrested. This is child abuse. Because you are upset over your childhood, don't put your children through this pathetic crap!

Ironically, you can see what this mother and daughter are doing. So you can rant at someone specifically all you wanna! Then go check the Backstreets in any town and see what real child abuse is really all about. They are not the Brady bunch out there!

There are many kinds of abuse. Emotional and psychological abuse can be as devastating to a person as physical or sexual abuse. Especially when a child as young as this one is a puppet for obviously unbalanced parents. The manipulation and living vicariously through this girl is horrifying! What decisions is she making about who she is in the world that will color the rest of her life? Do you really think it isn't abusive to give this kid a drug to keep her going? (Yes, caffeine is an addictive drug). Does she look like a healthy child to you? She looks burnt out in the first video. There are different levels of severity of abuse, but please don't dismiss this. It's serious and the far reaching implications are tragic.

Why do parents do this type of thing to their children? I have watched the show, and 9 times out of 10 the children are really not into, just pushed into it, brainwashed by the parents who are, for some reason or another trying to relive their lives, or think that this is the ultimate...so sad. Glad I am not a child in American today, for so many reasons.
