4 killed in shooting at French Jewish school

A teacher was gunned down along with his two children at a Jewish school in southern France Monday, while the director of the school saw his daughter shot and killed in front of him, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a somber appearance at the school.

Monday's killing of four people at Ozar Hatorah school in Toulouse was a "national tragedy," Sarkozy said. He called for a minute's silence in French schools on Tuesday.

It is the third time in the past 10 days that a gunman on a motorcycle has fired on members of ethnic minorities in the southwest of France.

French soldiers of north African origin were shot and killed on March 11 and March 15.

One of the guns used Monday was also used in the earlier killings, said Elisabeth Allannic, a spokeswoman for judicial authorities in Paris. A court in Paris Monday opened an investigation into all three killings, under anti-terrorism powers.

It's a good thing the internet didn't exist in the 1920's and 30's, Brit, you would get PLENTY of hateful replies to that question.

France is still our ally, despite a previous Presidents attempt to sway that opinion.

HOW HORRIFIC! poor Rabbi and kids. Also the righteous french soldiers! It is to early to lay balme on anyone. We saw this happen in India at Mumbai as well as hundreds of times in Israel.... I just got back from trip in Israel and saw people from all races and religions safe and protected by IDF soldiers.... even people who hate us (jews) were safe there.... Why cant europe progress and turn away.... This Rabbi and his school served jews who escaped from arab countries (mitzrahi) which now make up the major portion of Israels population. They are often very poor like the russian jews and ethiopians who were saved. Just recently George Clooney brought up the genocide in Sudan...thank G-d . It seems the only countries who saved human beings from there are Israel and France.... I would hope America would also save at least the children.... We (jews) were blocked during our time of need... Maybe Hertzl was right...even now. Only the coming of Moschiach will stop so much suffering......james ainoris

Admirable sentiments. Minorities everywhere including Israel deserve equal treatment, respect & dignity as their human right. Or resistance movements strugglin for their rights where oppression rules would eventually triumph. History bears witness.

I'm sure your trip to Israel also included visiting with those living in the occupied territories say Gaza. They must indeed be grateful to you for telling the world that they are treated so well and are so happy with their lot living under conditions of endless siege and oppression.
The brave Jews of Gush Shalom, Naomi Lalo, Uri Avnery, Noam Chomsky, Jewish Voice for Peace, JStreet, Rabbis of N.America for Peace and many many more would who are working tirelessly to inform Americans of the plight and misery of Palestinians would indeed appreciate your 'input'.

"...occupied territories say Gaza...."? First, Gaza is NOT occupied. Who is occupying Gaza? Oh yes, Hamas and Islamic Jihad which is an agent or Iran. There are no Jews or Israeli's (soldiers or otherwise) in Gaza. Instead of looking at the propoganda pictures sent by people and groups purpoting to show that Gaza is a squalid place, check out pictures of the national library, for instance. A beautiful new structure in Gaza. Check out the facts that the quality of life is growing in Gaza. Enough with the propoganda. Gaza is no longer occupied. So, a self-ruled part of the country and what happens? Thousands of rockets-THOUSANDS of rockets-lobbed into Israel. Wherever you live, imagine that happening 7 miles away from you. But of course, if Israel dares to react-the world condems. Upside down.

At times the ignorance or deliberate aversion from truth like the post by @ Martin saddens me . That is if he is an American.
Most bloggers wouldn't even be aware that two weeks ago the world observed Israeli Apartheid Week (its taboo for our 'free' media to cover) in 115 cities around the world. In US spear headed by Jewish orgs along with many other human rights and peace orgs, it was observed nation wide from Olympia to N. Brunswick to Burlington. Across campuses like Un. of UC Berkley, Antich, Seattle, Rutgers, Pennsylvania, Minnesota with seminars theatres and other events.
To bring attention to the oppression of the Palestinian people & apartheid policies of the Israeli regime. And stand up to its lobbies on our soil.

    Yes @ Martin occupied territories.
And those 'thousands' of rockets you say to mislead readers according to IDF were a few hundred rockets that injured 4 -6 sraelis. Whereas the airstrikes by Israel using combat aircraft killed more than a dozen Palestinians.
The rockets were fired in response to an airstrike by Israel claiming to have killed a hitherto unknown Palestinian resistance leader to stir up things.

    Thanks @ banasy
just let me ask @ Martin, how would he like rto live in those 'f'ree territories' where gunship helicopters hover above to fire at will and combat aircraft appear out of nowwhere to fire misiles on homes or bull dozers routinely demolish homes.
Wish you could speak with American Jewish braves like Rebecca Vilkomerson, Cecil Swarsky, Jeremy Ben-ami, David Gilo and many others who stand up for Truth & Justice, go to great lengths and against formidable odds to open our eyes to reality.

It is a sad day....my condolences to the families. For all that think all Jews are angels, that is false. Not all jews are nice, some even kill. it is safe to say some jews are even crazy. Nevertheless, each culture and religion has their own evil share. Most people are harmless, but there will always be a small amount of hate and evil. All cultures and religions have their heros and terrorist. Lets just try to unify the world and try to eliminate the evil that lingers on our planet. It's very unfortunate when people kill people people because of their race or color. It happens every day. Hopefully God can change that because He knows that we are all brothers and sisters at the end of the day. This world has gone to sh!t and i do think Jesus is coming down soon to save us from the evolving satanic invasion.
