Rallies, 'scream-outs' planned coast to coast in support of Trayvon Martin

A month ago Monday, Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Florida teen, died at the hands of a neighborhood watch volunteer, stirring outrage and protests nationwide.

The African-American teen was fatally shot on February 26 as he walked to his father's fiancée's house in Sanford after a trip to a convenience store. Neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman told police he shot the teen in self defense, and he has not been charged.

The 17-year-old's death fueled calls for justice nationwide that continue to grow daily. On Monday rallies are planned from coast to coast to pay tribute to Martin or bring attention to the issue. Below is a list of some of the largest planned rallies.

We are Trayvon."

    What is your problem?

You are okay that more black babies are aborted each day than any other race and that has been PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S goal. Do you not know the founder was a real advocate for the end of the black race and agreed with Hitler?

You need a lesson in manners and knowledge of the turth on PP.

I cannot believe how racists blacks have become. Everything someone who is not black does is racists now! This thug was wooping this guy and slamming dudes head into the pavement. I would have shot dude too if he was smashing my head into the pavement. But nobody cares about that. Dude is not even white. and why don't they show the updated thugged out pic of Trey instead of the pic from 2002 when he was a little boy. It amazes me how the media will spin anything to get a story. It is sad because they were both stupid. End of story!!!

Yes. Your second last sentence is exactly right. THEY WERE BOTH STUPID. This was all about two guys fighting about nothing, and not backing down. One of them was a lot stronger than the other (Trayvon Martin) and got the upper hand. The other one (Zimmerman) had a gun. It ended badly. But why bring race into it? It was about testosterone, not melanin.

All this time we were led to believe that Zimmerman was targeting this innocent looking young boy simply because he was black. Now, we learn that this innocent looking boy is six foot three, has a mouth full of gold teeth, and is tatted up and he really looks nothing like those pictures of him in the Hollister T-shirt. He's wearing a hoodie, and probably the requisite slouchy pants hanging below his rear, and, yes, I can see how he might draw the attention of a neighborhood watchmen. Further, his past actions are indicative of character. Seeing "reports", which may not be credible at this point, that he was kicked out of school for drugs and that he recently may have attacked someone a few days before he died. Zimmerman was also the one that was yelling for help? At the very least, this was not the scenario painted by the media, and, at worst, it might be that Trayvon was the attacker. Would like to know more facts...

You didn't present any fact. You missed the part that authority have confirmed Zimmerman had criminal record, and had history of violence. The 911 call showed Zimmerman was the aggressor who went after someone that was running away. Those are fact. Zimmerman's story is not considered fact. In fact, his injury (if any) may not have been inflicted by Trayvon Martin. For all we know he could have bumped his head on purpose in order for this self defense to have any slightest chance.

Face the fact. The "stand your ground" law's legislative sponsor, Florida congressman Dennis Baxley, said it was not written to give people the power to pursue and confront others. "That's not what this legislation does," said Baxley, a Republican. Based on the 911 phone call, he believes the law doesn't apply to Zimmerman. Also, former Gov J Bush also said "Stand your Ground" means stand your ground. He said Zimmerman went after someone who's fleeing. Therefore the law doesn't apply to Zimmerman.

@ What I learned by reading the Orlando Sentinal:
    @ David:
What you say makes sense to me.
I have said repeatedly that more testimony, and eventually the whole truth, will come to light.
If Martin was put out of his school for any drug-related issue, that issue is not "irrelevant" as his parents are said to have said.
One witness says that Martin was on top of Zimmerman, beating him? That is very relevant.
It is appearing more and more reasonable to me that the local police, after examining the available facts, decided NOT to arrest Zimmerman.
It is constantly appearing less reasonable to me that mass protests should occur until more facts are known.

@joey: i think you're reaching, man.. or just missing the point.. the whole truth can't come to light as one participant, with a side, is dead. in matters of life and death, do you want your murderer to walk after telling his side to the cops? he should have been arrested and told it to the judge. he might still have gotten off, but at least due process would be served. THAT'S the problem. he kills a guy and doesn't even have to go to court?

george told his side, and that's good enough for sgt beuford t justice.. no judge necessary..

everything else about this story *is* irrelevent.

He is 6'3" and beating the crap out of Zimmerman, banging his head to the pavement repeatedly and punching his face. Of course he would pull the gun and shot him.

Zimmerman is 5'9" and 80lb heavier. You sounded like Trayvon Martin is MMA's Jon Jones. That was just Zimmerman's side of the story. But we have to hear from Trayvon Martin too. But he's dead. Then the 3 white women who are witness said the cry for help came from Trayvon Martin. The police 911 call showed that Zimmerman was the aggressor who pursued and confronted Trayvon against the 911 dispatcher's instruction.

Michael Vick is wrong. The voice yelling for help has been identified as Zimmerman. 80# verses 6'3"... That taller guy will win. 911 calls shows no such thing, your imagination is going way further than the tapes show.

We know from the 911 tape, Trayvon Martin was fleeing and Zimmerman went after him against the instruction given to him by 911 dispatcher. Does Trayvon Martin have the right to "stand the ground"? Absolutely! I don't see how Zimmerman's lawyer can say no. Does Trayvon Martin have the right to defend himself after he got into altercation with Zimmerman? Absolutely! Does Trayvon Martin have the same right to fire a gun as Zimmerman? Of course! He was being chased and attacked. So who was covered by "Stand your Ground" law? Obviously you cannot tell me both Zimmerman and Martin are both covered. If you're still unclear, who started this incident and who confronted and pursued? That person is not covered by "Stand your Ground" law.

You don't know that at all. We do know that Trayvon was 6 foot 3 inches 140 pounds. He's not the 11 year old shown in most photographs. He was also suspended from school for drugs. Witness says Zimmerman was on the ground being beaten by Tryvon and Zimmerman was yelling for help. The person on the tapes yelling for help has been identified as Zimmerman. The facts are slowly coming out. You don't know who started the fight, Zimmerman says Trayvon attacked him. There is nothing illegal about following a stranger in a gated community that was unknown by the neighborhood watch. Your assuming Zimmerman attacked Trayvon, no evidence to support it.

If blacks don't like it and want to riot thats fine, just keep it in there own neighborhoods, cause if they bring that nonesess to my block I will defend my property.

You can't shoot someone because you're losing a fight that YOU started! Trayvon was minding his own business, Zimmerman was the agressor and cannot now say self-defense. most people in white america gets it but unfortunately there are still racist white people out here. If Zimmerman was badly hurt, why didn't he go to the hospital? If your head is repeatedly slmmed into the concrete there's no way the paramedics would have let him be taken into the police station, if they did and he died from head trauma then the paramedics are liable. Use common sense and stop letting you bigotry get in the way!!!

The 911 Tapes says Zimmerman was following Martin, then Zimmerman lost sight of Martin and was walking back to his SUV when Martin CONFRONTED Zimmerman, words were exchanged then MARTIN hit Zimmerman in the nose knocking him down, and repeatedly kicked and hit him, and slammed his head on the ground, the altercation ensued and Martin even tried to take Zimmerman's gun until Zimmerman eventually shot and killed Martin. Now this is all backed by proof because Zimmerman had a broken nose, bruises and trauma to the back of his head, along with grass stains on his clothing indicating a struggle. Now a witness came forward and said he saw the scuffle happen and when he witnessed it was Zimmerman who was on the ground with Martin beating him and it was Zimmerman who yelled for help.

All you people need to read the reports and get your facts straight instead of just calling for Zimmerman's arrest. Martin was no angel, he dressed liked a thug, with the only pictures of him being from when he was a child to make him look innocent, and how he was suspended from school for Marijuana resin. Part of cases is building character profiles folks, to prove one of them was bad/in-moral person. Wake up, if Martin would have got the gun from Zimmerman and shot him instead of things did unfold this wouldn't be even headline news. Get real and stop letting the media drag you along by a leash. And lets not even get into the racial BS that's being kicked up by this that's completely laughable.

At first, I thought that the Martin case would help Obama's second-term campaign.
However, as more facts emerge, I think that Obama's posture toward it could backfire on him.
The President should be careful how much gravy he tries to make with this steak, and maybe he'd better have a beer batter prepared. Remember the choice-of-beer party?

Who's presenting the story from Trayvon Martin's side? Only the 911 tape which showed Zimmerman to be the aggressor who chased after Trayvon Martin after he was running away. He told 911: "These axxholes always get away". Then the 911 dispatcher asked if he was pursuing him, then Zimmerman answered yes. The 911 dispatcher then instructed Zimmerman not to pursue and confront. But Zimmerman ignored.
