George Zimmerman appears before judge

[Updated at 2:01 p.m. ET] A solemn George Zimmerman, wearing gray jail coveralls, appeared before a Seminole County, Florida, judge Thursday, speaking only a few words as his arraignment was set for next month.

All matters including bond and further motions in the case will be handled by the circuit court, Judge Mark Herr said. The case will be assigned to Judge Jessica Recksiedler going forward.

As the short hearing was concluding, Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, asked that records containing personal information on witnesses, including addresses and telephone numbers in some cases, be sealed. As nothing else besides the probable cause affidavit had been filed in court Thursday, Herr said Recksiedler will address a motion to seal the file.

O'Mara did not ask that Zimmerman be released on bond, although he said earlier in the day he wanted his client released as soon as possible.

He did note, however, that being out on bail could jeopardize Zimmerman's safety.

"I think nobody would deny the fact if George Zimmerman is walking down the street today, he would be at risk," he explained.

I wonder if, when this case is thrown out in its first legal hearing if the media will jump on the prosecution for "witch hunting." The fact that this guy is being charged when the prosecutors knows they have zero chance of attaining a conviction is deplorable. We are not supposed to try people simply because its the popular thing or the convenient thing to do.

The chances of that happening are slim to none. None of the elements of self defense or stand your ground are there. Zimmerman was never attacked or had his life in danger. He probably didn't mean to kill the kid but he meant to shoot him whoch any reasonable person would know would eother kill or seriously harm the kid. Learn the law.

I couldn't help but notice last night that among the forst words out of the special prosecuter's mouth were a denial that the charges were politically motivated, or due to public pressure. Whenever someone says something like that – without being prompted – you know what the real truth is.

Paco... What makes you think that african americans are the only race that do not understand the law?
People are human and we arent programmed to know everything. By your choice of words, it shows just how ignorant you are.

Instead of outlaw guns....outlaw hoodies, then the young blacks wont get shot. That makes ad much sense as outlawing guns. Then only all the black people with illegal guns will be the only ones armed.. lol
