1,500 Palestinian prisoners start hunger strike

About 1,500 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli detention began an open-ended hunger strike Tuesday as Palestinians across the West Bank and Gaza gathered in various events to observe the annual Prisoners' Day, marking solidarity for the thousands of Palestinians in Israeli prisons.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Association Club, an inmate advocacy group, said there were 1,500 prisoners taking part in the hunger strike and suggested that more from a range of Palestinian political factions were expected to follow.

"The Palestinian detainees who are on hunger strike are protesting Israel's treatment to prisoners inside the Israeli prisons," said Amani Sarahna, a club spokeswoman. "They are protesting Israel's policy of administrative detention and solitary confinement for prisoners for months at a time. They are protesting the arbitrary fines imposed on prisoners by the Israeli authority, the prevention of families especially of those from Gaza."

Let em starve! Less tax dollars being wasted on feeding the terrorist trash! Plus, if a few expire, all the better.

Many of these Palestinian prisoners are no-doubt gay, some 43% of US prison inmates are openly gay. Are you all going to just stand there and approve of your gay brethren being mistreated in Israeli prisons?

Great comments presuming that all of you out there venting your hate have some semblance of humanism and are in fact Americans.
44 years of brutal Military Occupation of East Jerusalem,Palestinian West Bank & Gaza strip is a slap on the face of humanity and its collective conscience.

I stand up and salute the brave Jews of B'Tselem, Gush Shalom, JVP, JStreet and tens of thousands more. Who kept hidden by our 'free' media have been standing up to this brutality by standing with the oppressed people of Palestine and fighting to let the world know the truth.

There are more than 8000 Palestinians under Israeli 'Administrative Detention/military interrogation cells' including minors from 12-18 years of age. Without legal recourse and living under conditions which are tragic.

I was trying to say that Israel feeds their prisoners rather well, compared to Hamas.

Plus prisoners in Israeli jails deserve to be there. Hamas hostages do not.

I don't mind looking the other way as Israeli Jews torture Palestinians. Jews are gods chosen people and god wants US to protect our bankers.
