White Sox Humber throws perfect game against Mariners

Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox pitched a perfect game Saturday in a 4-0 win over the Mariners in Seattle.

Only 20 other pitchers have tossed perfect games, in which no opposing batter reaches base, in Major League history, according to MLB.com.

It was the first no-hitter of the 2012 season.

Humber threw 96 pitches, 67 for strikes, and struck out nine. The last batter he faced, Brendan Ryan, nearly spoiled the perfect game when he struck out but had to be thrown out at first when the ball got past Chicago catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

Until Humber's gem, Philadelphia's Roy Halladay had the most recent perfect game, on May 29, 2010, against Florida. Oakland's Dallas Braden had the American League's most recent perfect game, on May 9, 2010, against Tampa Bay. The last White Sox pitcher to throw a perfect game was Mark Buehrle against Tampa Bay on July 23, 2009.

Come on, we all know the last perfect game in the AL was thrown by Armando Galarraga. He should have been credited with it despite the blown call.

You're right, but it's a judgement call and the umpire got it wrong. The pitcher was very positive after the game even though he wasn't credited with a perfect game.

No hitter. Yeah, right... with the help of the dumb ump. It was a check swing, not strike! What a bunch of BS.

Odds are that you're a...drum roll please...Cubs fan!

      Watch the replay, pinhead.

How many baseball games have you actually seen? Because it's clear you can't differentiate a check swing from a swinging strike. And no, sitting at Wrigley socializing and getting hammered doesn't count as watching a game or doing anything to improve your baseball IQ.

Also, why are you double posting? You posted half as many times as the Cubs have victories.

Only in baseball is a "perfect" game one in which nothing at all happens. Baseball makes Cricket look like ultimate fighting championship in comparison. It's more entertaining to watch the grass on the field grow than it is to watch the "game"

Congrats to you Phillip Humber! An amazing accomplishment indeed. All morons near and far who'd diss you and hope to take it away out of spite, are simple punks with IQ's less than room temp, and who can't wipe their own rear ends 27 times in a row without calling in mommy or Rush Limbaugh to help – much less comprehend the magnitude of what you just did. I hope you live do it again someday, Sir Phillip!
