Gotta Watch: Devoted dogs

Few bonds are stronger than the one between a dog and its master. In fact, the second most popular video last week was a piece by CNN's Jeanne Moos that shows just that. It got us thinking about some of our other favorite videos showing just how devoted man's best friend can be. You've Gotta Watch these loyal pets.

Man's best friend is dog's best friend, too

Dogs are not only man's best friend, they're pretty loyal to each other, as well. CNN's Jeanne Moos found several dogs whose devotion is simply amazing. Watch the video to see acts of canine heroism like you've never seen before.

Dog mourns loss of Navy SEAL

One of the more touching displays of a dog's devotion happened in August 2011. While family and friends mourned the death of Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson, his dog did, too. Watch the video to see what happened.

Dog remains faithful to dead owner

Many of you responded to the story of Wayne Giroux and his dog, Spot. Giroux died in 2010. Watch this video to see how Spot showed his love for his owner months after he died.

Pack instinct . Not loyalty as sentimental and unread dog owners think. but then again they are also the dopes who think "awwww my doggie wants to give me kisses" meanwhile that is how they instinctively signal for food as they do from their mother. Which is aside from the fact it just licked its genital area and now your mouth.

I would have to disagree with your disbelief that dog's aren't capable of loyalty. It has been proven to me time after time by the dog's in my life. While I wouldn't anthropomorphize dog's basic instincts I have witnessed countless times when my son's service dog has chosen to remain with my son even when faced with extreme temptation. On many of the occasions the dog could have easily been able to escape from my son, yet he never has.

I gotta agree with you on the kissing thing...so nasty. I never understood why people let their dogs kiss them on the mouth or lick them.

what you call kissing is a natural way of dogs to interact.

The videos finely display why dogs are my favorite people. I lost my favorite dog, Jack, last December. He was 15 years old and I'd raised him since his age of 6 months. He was a loving, kind and devoted boy. His age and an untreatable condition took him from me. Perhaps, ohsnap, if you had such a good and loving animal and a heart, you'd be able to understand as well as accept their loving licks.

To those who don't understand why people let their dogs to kiss/lick them,.. maybe you should know that dogs saliva is many more times sterile than humans... Feel sorry for you, that you don't let yourself experience the love of the dogs. HUMANS have a lot to learn from DOGS.

Mankind should not have made slaves out of animals.

You apparently are not one who has a pet. A dog or cat who is loved in a household is not a slave. they are free to go as they polease. They stay because they receive love and affection. Sure they get fed and sometimes spoiled. In reality, they are family. I have pets, we share our home with them, they love attention and are not forced into slavery for they do not perform acts to please me. They do not owe me anything nor I them. We have a bond because a pet provides companionship and comfort. If you had a dog, cat or other animal, you might know this.

Our deepest condolences for the loss of your friend. Gill's folks had to put down our boy Digby July 5, 2010. We have a painting of him in our living hanging in a spot of honor. He will always be missed.

My Peanut passed away 6 months ago and I miss him beyond words. He taught me and so many others more how to love life. My life has been so enhanced by him ~ he made me laugh every day. Sad, some people will never understand the unconditional love from an animal. Not something you can explain for talk someone into.

My Forever Angel Peanut will be in my heart forever.

When my wife and I married in 2005, I inherited two dogs and five cats. Initially, Zeus, our Rottweiler, and I, had a tenuous relationship, because he didn't look at me as daddy, he looked at me more as a play thingy. Needless to say, he was alpha and after years of growing close, I never questioned him, not because I feared him, but because I loved him so very much for the love and joy he gave me, my family, and my friends. Zeusy passed away in 2010, and I think about him every day. Having never been a dog owner prior to my marriage, I never knew how close a bond a human could have with a dog. For those who have never owned a dog, but always wanted to, I have two words for you...do it! Life is never full until you own a pet, but especially a dog. The only prerequisite for owning a dog is that you have plenty of love to give in return!

Then there's Hachiko, Greyfriar's Bobby and so many stories from all over the world about this great bond. I love my dogs(and kitties too) can't imagine life without them.

The nobility and selflessness of dogs is humbling to see. My son has a service dog who is completely devoted to him. This dog has made my son the center of his universe. The only thing he seems to required from us is to care and love him in return.

Dogs love people as part of their pack, part of their family. This is another example of a pet's love. Animals have souls and feelings. Dogs and cats feel pain when someone that love dies/passes on. I know they will meet again in Haven. Rest in peace. I wish people would stand up for animal rights more often. They care for us, we should care for them.

    The big differance
    That seperates dog from Man;
    A starving
Man wil kil and eat his dog, But a starvlng dog will wait until you die before he eats you!
