U.S. troops have fired into Pakistani territory at least four times in the last 10 months in cross-border skirmishes that they say are in response to shelling from inside Pakistan, CNN has learned.
The revelation is likely to stoke already tense relations between Pakistan and the United States, which hit a new low after a NATO airstrike last year killed 24 Pakistani soldiers along the volatile border.
While the Taliban and Haqqani network, an Afghan militant group operating from Pakistan's Waziristan province, are generally believed responsible for cross-border attacks against troops, an Afghan army commander says Pakistani soldiers opened fire on him and his men as recently as April 14.
"When we went near the border, we were attacked with an anti-aircraft gun and mortars by the Pakistani army from their checkpoints. We are not only attacked from the Pakistani soil, but we are also attacked by the Pakistani army," Masoud Karimi, an Afghan army commander, told CNN.
That's what I think too. I wish people would all be nice to each other.
These Afghan "so called" soldiers should stop hiding behind US skirts. Pakistan should not take any BS from these mercenaries and should respond with full force.
without scrambling a few eggs.
We need to get out. Period
Cases of overdose deaths & drug abuse among US troops is now coming to light among other negatives.
We should have exited when Talibans offered to hand over OBL to us twice but Bush rejected. We should have come out after we got Osama.
Two windows of opportunity we unwisely ignored.
I agree completely, saywhat!
We should have departed a long time ago.
The loss of life all around, coupled with the crippling of our soldiers via drugs, is no longer acceptable.
We need to get out NOW.
Hope is a constant companion in this life. It is one thing that neither cruel nature, God, nor other men can wrench from us.
Health, wealth, parents, beloved brothers and sisters, children, friends, the past, the future -all can be stolen from us as easily as an unguarded purse. But our greatest treasure, hope remains. It is a sturdy little motor within, purring, ticking, driving us on when reason would suggest surrender. It is both the most pathetic and noblest thing about us, the most absurd and the most admirable quality we possession, fot as long as we have hope, we also have the capacity for love, for caring, for decency.
Dean R. Koontz
from the book Twilight Eyes
Pakistani Soldiers. That's an oxy moron. Their biggest guns shoot empty aluminum cans.
Another Indian in sheep's clothing. WOW! A serious joke! Get it?
Can either Afghanistan or Pakistan make it any clearer that we need to get out of there. The one so called ally, we had there is now shelling us too. This has been a fiasco from the very start. The people there did not/do not want us there, yet for some unexplicable reason we remain. Just like in Iraq, the billions of dollars and thousands of deaths we've spent will be for naught. These people obviously love to fight amongst themselves. It's been going on for mellinnia, and will resume when/if we ever leave.
Koontz does give us hope but that alone doesn't necessarily work. We need to augment hope with action that we are capable of.
In this case , making our voices heard to stop this madness and any further acts of insanity that are being contemplated in our corridors of power.
You forget my friend that our guns have been spitting the same cans for the past ten years or we wouldn't be there looking around for exits. The longest running war in our history and that too not against an 'enemy' our own size.
God what have got ourselves into.
When we first went into Afghanistan and then Iraq, it was warned that this will be another viet nam. Lo and behold, it has surpassed all expectations. The only way I can see getting out now, is again like viet nam. Tuck our tails, back out of there and let them go back to doing what they do. The biggest factor in all three of these embarrasments, is not being able to fight the wars the way we were trained too. We have the abilities to end any wars in short order, but we are not allowed to use these abilities.
Hey Bobcat,ya think we had learned something watching the Afghanistan people kicking the Russians butt.Russia had more troops, more weapons ,used weapons regarded illegal by the UN .They used chemical weapons wiping out entire villiages, massacred thousands of innocent unarmed civilians all in front of entire world. Arms dealers ,even a U.S.senator sold arms that benefitted the afghan rebel fighters in fighting a war of David against Golieth with David eventually watching his tormentor Golieth leave after years of war.We are supposed to be an intelligent country, more so then the villagers of Afghanistan, but our big ego got in the way of civil thinking. It's time to call it quits because we're throwing good money for bad and we will never get anything back for the sacrifice our men and women are doing fighting an endless worthless war,not one favorable with the US public after the Iraq war debacle.Much like the Vietnam war that you mentioned,no benefits to us ,just more worthless death and destruction,to innocence on both sides of that war, shared by all....
How about this...when you gather in the streets, burn our flag and chant death to america, a big fat bomb should follow to take you all out....know that the American people hate your guts and would love to send you hell right next to your Mohamad, the devils brother.....oh look....I have a picture of him...... :-( yes, he looks upset, he said that you havent killed enough of your muslim brothers....now get to work or no virgins for you.
Shut up Dave.
are you sure you are allowed to run around without your strait jacket?
AFTER THE PAKISTANI S SHOT INTO THE BASE. As soon as they did that, we(us) should have ordered immediate site strikes. Pakistan is a terror state and should not be left free, bomb the poo out of them
Am I imagining or do people really write this sort of stuff?
@ saywhat, Have you ever asked yourself *why* Bush rejected the OBL offer?
We got the raw deal in the India-Pakistan relationship born out of the Cold War. We got Pakistan and the Soviets had India... Talk about buyers remorse.
India is playing a double game with Americans in Iran and Afghanistan. They are in bed with the mullahs and talibans while they have their begging bowls out towards the American taxpayers for call centers, technology, nukes, missiles and more. Send them the leftover steaks from the diners instead.
