Suspect in New York City bomb plot found guilty

A Bosnian immigrant accused of plotting to bomb New York City's subway system as an "al Qaeda terrorist" has been found guilty on all counts.

Adis Medunjanin was charged with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction and conspiring to provide material support to al Qaeda. He faces life in prison.

In closing arguments late last week at a federal court in Brooklyn, Assistant U.S. Attorney Berit Berger said that Medunjanin was willing "to strap a suicide bomb to himself, walk into a New York City subway and blow it up."

Prosecutors had argued that Medunjanin traveled to Pakistan's tribal belt with two friends, Najibullah Zazi and Zarein Ahmedzay, where he sought to join the Taliban but ended up being recruited by al Qaeda to perform a suicide mission back in America.

Upon their return to the United States, prosecutors contend that Medunjanin and his two friends hatched a plan to rig backpacks with explosives and blow them up.

But Gottlieb denies his client had a role in such a bomb plot.

Co-conspirators Zazi, an immigrant from Pakistan, and Ahmedzay, an immigrant from Afghanistan, have pleaded guilty to planning the attack with him and are awaiting sentencing. Both men have cooperated with the government and testified at Medunjanin's trial.

Medunjanin's attorney, Robert Gottlieb, denied those accounts, insisting his client traveled to Pakistan "not to join al Qaeda, but to join the Taliban in fighting foreign troops in Afghanistan."

Agreed. They'll let him remain in prison to communicate with the outside world somehow to plan another plot.

Wait you mean the court system works without a program like the NDAA arresting and holding someone indefinitely? Go figure.

Be careful you do not become as closed minded as those you would condemn. Terrorism knows no religion or nationality. Hate the terrorist, not a whole society or belief.

And this guy is white. We have to watch all white people. White people are committing terrorism.

Talk about spitting in our face.
We sent in our best military assets to protect Bosnian Muslims in the 90's and this is how he repays us?

    String him up.

Send him to Guantanamo!! We either keep Guantanamo or move them to the most northern part of Alaska. I prefer the latter. I don't like the death penalty; however, extreme punishment is good so long as it isn't torture.

Imagine that! We actually can try terrorists in American courts, without having the terrorist use the court as a podium to spread hate and even in New York City. The fear mongering right proven wrong yet again. Shocking!

This guy was caught in the U.S. and thus was open to normal methods of criminal investigation. Slight difference from the people captured shooting at our troops in Afghanistan. People captured inside the U.S. were not subject to non-civilian detainment/trials until Obama signed the NDAA a few months ago. Leftist shown to be ignorant yet again. Shocking!

I do understand the difference between where a terrorists are caught and what rights they have depending on just that. Yet you missed my point and deflected from what I stated. No matter where this man was caught; he was tried, convicted and will most likely be sentenced to die in New York City, the same as four men convicted for the first Trade Center Bombing in 1993 were tried and convicted. You can provide no evidence that terrorists held or captured
elsewhere for the horrific acts of 911 would be any different except pure speculation not supported by fact.

    Mark –
What were these best military assets you speak? Bombing Kosovo after the fact or Belgrade too? U.N. Peace Keeping troops that turnover nearly 8,000 civilians to be massacred at Srebrenica? Where were these troops?

    JustGreat-
I am assuming you do not understand the complexity of the issue. First, not all Bosniaks are Muslim, not all Croats are Catholic, and not all Serbs are Orthodox. There is no red vs. blue here so do not simplify what you do not understand.

Do either of you know how recruiting can happen? Do you understand this nation is estimated upwards of 40% unemployment and the possibility for a better nation is not in the near future with the way things are going now. Thus, well off Muslim factions build Minarets all over the nation and bring in the poor and provide healthcare, food, and education to these people who have no government to turn to. Why do you think they will support outside forces and try to obtain some sort of identificaiton with a person/group they believe is actually doing something.

These thread will demonstrate the racism that still lives and breathes in being of many "Americans".

    Get educated.

The white feminists(THE DEVIL'S CONCUBINES) were the most vocal in their hatred toward BLACK AMERICANS and were the most vocal in demanding the deportation of native born blacks to AFRICA under immigration and anti terrorism laws ,and it was the white feminists(DEVIL'S CONCUBINES) who were also the most vocal in supporting racial profiling in which many black americans were arested and were either martyred within the prison system or were deported to AFRICA ,where many of them were martyred there and were buried in mass graves in both the SUDAN and in the CONGO , and it was this act as well as the rise of the hiphop nation which had been summon against black america is what has contribute to the black holocaust.1968-1993-2001. Meanwhile a new demonic black america has arisen from both the hiphop nation and antebellum nation and is based on stereotypical images of low class ,poverty stricken and criminally prone blacks and has replace the black human population
