Elderly men were keeping watch Saturday over Timbuktu's main library after Islamists burned down a tomb listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The attacks Friday were blamed on Ansar Dine, a militant group that seeks to impose strict Sharia law.
The ancient city in Mali was captured by at least two separatist Tuareg rebel groups in an anti-government uprising in the northern part of the country that began in January.
The rebels burned the tomb of a Sufi saint where people come to pray, said Sankoum Sissoko, a tour guide familiar with the place. He said the library and other heritage sites remained under threat.

You did just fine. I am of the belief that one who is seeking the truth as if it were gold is the correct way in going about finding Gods word and his meaning.
You are also correct on the fact that many religions believe they have the answers, when in fact Jehovah witnesses are the closest to transcribing the the Bible most accurately from hewbrew (old testiment) greek (new testiment) to english
you've got to beeeekidding...!
@ Mary
You are correct about the JW's. They do have a very pure message. But, as with all of the many religions I've studied with, I have one problem that sticks in my craw. The belief is if you are not baptized into christianity, you will not go to heaven. I, in my lifetime, have known many people who have never had religion, yet are some of the finest people who ever walked this earth. On the other hand, a great deal of the people I've met who claim to be christian are some of the nastiest and mean people I've ever met. How can it be that people who are pure gold would be denied the honor, yet the ones who are iron would be accepted with open arms. That just doesn't make sense to me.
you gotta beeeeeeeekidding...you sound like mitt romney supporter...
So true bobcat. Religious people are usually the ones to cast the first stone. On the other side of the coin tho at least they believe in something......
> marking a shift to the left at the heart of Europe and heralding a fight back against German-led austerity.
what if it was sarah palins tomb? any complaints on that?
> marking a shift to the left at the heart of Europe and heralding a fight back against German-led austerity.

Sarah Palin might have a complaint or two, as she's still alive...
@ bobcat (in a hat) ©, Sorry to hear your not feeling well today, but it just goes to show the person you are when putting aside your own problems to give some light to anothers day.
thanks my friend.
@ bobcat (in a hat) ©, I can only go by what I know so far. That being said, The baptism is and should only be done at and age of consent and is syblolizing a persons devotion to God... like a vow you are giving yourself to the other in marriage for ever.
As for the question on a specific religion one belongs to and their treatment of others, it is the person whom will be judged, therefore all religions are made up of people who are inperfect.
The religion and a person with in that religion are two seperate enit ities, some follow the "fruitages" some only bost of following.
And yes, we ALL fall short of the glory of God.
...i guess when the canonical books of the new testament said whole households were baptized...that excluded babies.......NOT!...but what can you say when one like mary belongs to a religion who fabricates their own texts...
Religion = doctrine
Person = congregation member
Those who follow the doctrine of God and those who do not but claim they do, yet both will fall short of the glory of God....me included.
Gotta go to work
see ya
look imma baby advocator...these children and the unborn are blessings from god...you women should dedicate these children from the womb and baptized them as soon as possible after birth...consecrating them to god's kingdom...how quickly you protest this holy dedication...but are slow to condemn when their life is offered to the icy cold metallic abortion table: an altar of death and destruction: a dedication that curses its blessings of life...that you support...women reject these notions and baptize your children away from this culture of
death and demons...
Hello. Welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline
If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.
If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2.

If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number to press.
If you are manic-depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press. No one will answer.
If you are anxious, just start pressing numbers at random.
If you are phobic, don't press anything.
If you are anal retentive, please hold.
righteous people don't need a psychiatric hotline for their moral compass...
It depends on how righteous one may think they are.
NO IT DOES NOT...your relativitism is a snake that utilize facade to REJECT absolute truth...drink your own poison serpent...!
You would condemn a man who brings levity to an unwinnable argument? You speak for no one but yourself, heathen.
@Lou, whom or what do you speak for? do you know me? when you condemn someone to an unknown route, in all graciousness, the guide should have tread first to assured a safe outcome...your advice is treacheous and guide one to a path full of murderers and robbers...what? you hide your wounds and your loss so others can share in your misery? i stand by my advice...if your cup of poison is soooo healthy drink it yourself!
Do you know anyone here? Yet you condemn. You have been drinking from your own cup of self righteousness. You are an object of pity.
i condemn what is spoken here...on this blog...on this thread...why would you have a problem with that? where's your protest lou...with the off topic poop boys...huh...you are just a hypocrite...who want to control and intimidate a view that support TRUTH!
Have you taken a bunch of words and thrown them together to try and write a sentence that has big words but no substance? You make no sense with your gibberish. You worship at the altar of Mmmmm.
you worship the altar of lou!
I got the one ...(Psychiatric Hotline) , love it
have a good day bobcat (in a hat) ©
love the truth more...contrary mary!
Again, that would depend on ones perception of which truth is the actual truth.
...you cup is still full...stop offering to others and drink your own poison...
No poison is being served, just ones perception of righteousness. Only the lord can make the choice of who is truly righteous. We Can't Fool God About What is in Our Heart – Psa. 64:5-6.
well now...mighty nice of you to bring the lawd in as jerge and jury...but has spoken to your heat regarding all matter: with the testament of his teaching, his commandments, his word as recorded in the bible, with the apostles and saints, his churches and temples, his priest, deacons, religious, and their respective authority...but y'all have rejected all of this for your on desires...you don't even believe he died for your sins
nor that he rose in victory over death...what more do you want god to do???can you answer that Lou?
heat...meant heart
The self righteous are the most insidious of all. LOL.
your rhetoric is the one most deceptive and deceitful...for what you say in jest you trully mean...and your duplicitious statements and winks serve only to cause confusion of the ignorant and unwised...for fools serve your trechery and lies willingly...
You speak the language of gibberish fluently, heathen.
@ Mmmmm
Not to be callous, but in your response to mine and Marys comment about the jehova witnesses, you showed an intolerance for that paticular sect that leads me to believe that your particular sect is in fact the only way. That appears to show a tendency of self-righteousness.
As all I said in the begining was, It depends on ones perception as to what is the real truth.
See, no offering of poison. Just that everyone chooses which way they want to believe. It is not our place to tell them they are wrong, as they believe as strongly tn their way as you do in yous.
Bobcat is most wise, charlatan. Listen to sage advice, heaten, for you fool nobody with your false piety.
Jeehovi-people do not believe jesusis god...mary is deceptive for she does not share this information before she criticizes...
Jeehovi-people are not christian...they address themselves as jeehovi-witnesses...no more than m0re m0ns are christian for m0re m0ns are not...both of these religions deny that jesus is god...
...and they don't believe he died for their sins and they don't have regard for the canonical bible but rather hold other text as written by the hand of their founders whom they themselves accredited these writings as coming from other sources aside from inspirations of the holy spirit or experiences of jesus himself...
where's billy idol when you need him...
It's a nice day for a white wedding. It's a nice day to start agaaaaain.
@bob....WHACK!...not intolerant just making my point felt...you feelme?
@ Mmmmm
Yes my friend, I feel you. I too am just making my point felt.
'Eyes Without A Face' would propbably be more apropos for this thread.
What?
No Macarena and Electric Slide?
@Mmmm
Great discussion though.
Shoot. With as many TWISTS as this thread took, we need to go with Chubby Checker.
I would pay good money to watch you alligator!
I don't do those new-fangled dances, either...
Nah, I tend more towards the classic swing-type-o-dancing...but I'd be very happy to watch and learn...work it, baby!
Nothing quite that extreme, Mmmmm....the drawers stay hidden...I don't swing •that• far...lol.
@bc(iah) ©
Your phone menu is still hysterical.
This thread is the reason I avoid organized religion. It causes more divide than unity.
@ raven
That was exactly my point. I would much rather have my beliefs and not be hypocritical. I deny no the inherent right to believe as they will. I have learned much from many different religions, and form my own opinion.
I guess you could call me a realist. I wake up each morning and look at the world for what it is.
My belief system is mine.
I own it.
The end.
Amen, bobcat. Amen. I belong to the churcha raven, but it's all inclusive, brother.
