Judge tosses defamation suit against Syracuse's Boeheim

A New York State Supreme Court justice dismissed Friday a defamation lawsuit against Syracuse University and its longtime head basketball coach, Jim Boeheim.

The suit was filed in December by two former ball boys for the basketball team, who have accused Bernie Fine, a former assistant coach, of repeated sexual abuse when they were children.

Boeheim (pictured) initially supported Fine, a longtime friend and colleague, accusing Mike Lang and his stepbrother, Bobby Davis, of fabricating their accusations of Fine's alleged misconduct. The coach later apologized for his comments.

@bobcat(in a hat), the jails are so overcrowded out there, there is a place called tent city where with DUI ers go. You behave yourself, I would never like that to happen. If you get out this way there has to be a way to get in touch with me. Tori and I would love to meet you.

I'm hoping to make it out that way sometime this fall. If I can get away from this training for awhile that is. It has been wide open lately. But if I am able to, I'll let you know so we can set up a rendevous (sic).

@bobcat(iah) Fall, is even a better time here, not so hot. Is the training of your first responders going well? Never change who you are because we all love you just the way you are. Sounds like song lyrics.

Keir Weimer believes this should put to rest much of the lingering uncertainty surrounding this untoward event, and what the continuing fallout and reverberations on campus might look like.

Keir Weimer thinks that this entire episode in Syracuse Basketball and Syracuse University history has been a mark of opprobrium and disapprobation, and one that the entire university community and larger surrounding community need to still recover from in the eyes of the rest of the collegiate D1 sports world.

My reaction is that the victims were already embarrassed and harassed by the coach in the media. This does nothing to change the fact that these were indeed victims and the coach is an unperceptive, judgemental prig. Almighty basketball wins again.

Syracuse University should be shut down indefinitely.
