Open thread: Same-sex marriage and your life

This week, President Obama announced his personal support for same-sex marriage. The endorsement came a day after North Carolina voters passed a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage in their state.

So, we want to know - what does Obama's announcement mean to you? Will it make any difference in your life?

That line was added much later, for anti communist propaganda. We are a secular state that allows free practice of religion, not to be governed by it. You people make me sick.

It was not necessary to change the definition of "white" to outlaw racial discrimination. (i.e. "From now on, everyone in America is white.") It is no more necessary to change the definition of "marriage" to outlaw discrimination against registered civil unions.

Just because I dont follow your ideals doesnt mean I am a bigot. I dont trash your ideals. I dont put laws into place that will force you to follow my ideals. Yet year after year you strive to force me to believe in your ideals by putting such laws in to place.

      Oppression People:
We are not disagreing with your views. We disagree with your right to put your religious values into our Secular Laws. You are free to be as narrow minded as you want behind the walls of your church. However, when you step outside of that building into my Secular World, your rules do not apply. You always scream about seperation of church and state. The right to freedom of religion. Well, it is a 2-way street. I demand of seperation of your church from my state. I also demand freedom from your religion in my secular world.

Because your theology isn't grounded in evidence, therefore has no place in the laws of modern society. Nobody is asking you to marry someone you don't want to marry. This doesn't infringe on your freedom whatsoever, but because it doesn't match up to *your* idea of how other people should live, you support laws intended to discriminate and create inequalities. And you want to do all this based on a few words in a 2,000 year old book, a book whose scripture is mostly ignored when making modern laws. We don't punish those who eat shellfish or work on Sunday. Your view is backwards and dead. It's time for society to outgrow this infantile view of the world.

Conservatives and the Taliban should join together. Their views are so much alike I'm sure they'd get along really well.

Since the two words, "under God," were added to the Pledge of Allegiance ABOUT 1960, I have refused to say those added words.
I was married to a woman in a church. Our good marriage would have been the same if it had been done at City Hall.
I'm glad I know what's in the Bible, as it's too popular.
    Shove that book.

How does this forum work? I wrote a very well-thought out reply and it never showed up. I tried to resubmit and the site noted I I already submitted those words. So where are they, and why are times out of order? Do they reflect local time?

  9. Hello

I've read a lot of strange comments that marriage is for pro creating and babies. What about infertile straight couples? What about elderly straight couples? So they shouldn't be getting married either?

  10. Hey Zeus

Why is there never a mention in the bible of a Mrs. Jesus or little Jesuses? Here we have a dude who only seemed to hang around with 12 other dudes. No women. Hmmmm, I wonder if Jesus ever got it on with his "disciples"? Makes you wonder what really went on.

that is because Jesus did not divulge in desires of the flesh or sin, his desire was that of the Fathers!

Jesus does not teach tolerance of sin nor does he teach that we are to condone it.

You can't say it's a medical problem, then say it's a "sin" =P You're mixing science and religion, which are not the most compatible subjects...at least for now.
