This week, President Obama announced his personal support for same-sex marriage. The endorsement came a day after North Carolina voters passed a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage in their state.
So, we want to know - what does Obama's announcement mean to you? Will it make any difference in your life?

As long as it's not shoved in my face and as long as they act appropriately in public as most NORMAL couples act I don't care.
What about the children. That's the problem as I see it. One female mother and one male husband!
@Steve - perhaps divorce should be illegal then, not gay marriage.
What about the children? How many single welfare mothers do we have? How is that better than two mothers or two fathers? Then again, how many kids today have two mothers and two fathers? Even Jesus had two fathers.
I'm fine! I have my own company, a wife, two kids and a dog. I was raised by my moms... Your point? You know what I Learned? How lucky I was to be adopted by two loving people, and I am way better off than my orphan contemporaries. My moms taught me true love!!! My wife and I are adopting our this summer and naming her Debby Caroline after my Moms.
Get a damn clue and stop being so HATEFUL!
As long as there is love in the family, that's all that matters. There are many straight families where one parent is absent. Families come in all forms and do just fine.
I support love and marriage 100%..if you are gay, straight, etc. does not even occur to me.
I think we as peoplke have committed every sin listed in the bible. I think we have gotten to the last one the creation of Adam and Eve. I think that if their is a GOD this is the one that will break the camel back. If he's coming back to claim his kingdow, it will be soon.
It's there, not their.
he probably will come back because you spew hate towards your fellow man and woman
And it's kingdom, not kingdow.
Yeah, is that what you think? You must not think very much.
If he (the Christian God) comes back to claim his Kingdom ... then I'd take your beliefs seriously – but until then, it sounds like a big ball of fantasy to me. Hell, people have been predicting his return for 2,000 years now – he doesn't seem to be in any particular hurry...
This is another argument for separation of church and state. The state should not issue marriage licenses. The state should issue civil agreements for everyone. The church performs marriages. My church believes that marriage is a covenant between a man and woman before God. If someone else's church believes differently then that is their business and not mine. However, once the state gets involved it's everybodies business and then I am put into a position of opposing something that the state shouldn't be involved in the first place.
Now you're just arguing semantics. The word "marriage" didn't exist 3000 year ago. I don't see any problem just using "state marriage" or "church marriage". Two churches may also disagree on what qualifies for marriage – who's going to decide which one "owns" the word?
As an atheist, I really don't think the Church should have a monopoly on marriage. The best marriage I've ever seen is my own parent's, they're still in love, still married today and theirs was not a religious marriage. Meanwhile all my friends who have had religious ceremonies are getting divorced left and right. Trying to assert a monopoly over marriage to force your religious beliefs on people is sick and manipulative. I realize marriage is "big business" for Churches but have some shame.
You are right. Neil Tarey has a discourse about exactly this on his web site. You should read it and perhaps even discuss it from your pulpit. (www.neiltarey.com) It is in his Social Diatribes section.
You actually make a consistent point. The problem is once religious-based individuals and lawmakers injected the word "marriage" into the statutory laws of the many states and the federal government, then it must be made available to every American under the Equal Protection Clause. Had the country simply limited itself to allowing some kind of civil union instead of marriages, and left marriages to religious groups. we might be having a different argument today. How ironic that the use of the word marriage in statutory laws came from lawmakers who were improperly injecting religion into the business of the government.
So Jimmer I should have to foot your medical bills because your straight ! And if I do can you give me one good reason?
You're not "footing" anyone's medical bills. Your "contributing" to health care for your fellow man. I pay my insurance premiums just like you do. I know this is a stretch for many republicans to help their fellow man but it's what decent societies all over the world do.
I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage that is from God. Marriage is between a man and a woman. I will no longer vote for President Obama in the fall election. He has strayed too far from traditional Christian values that this country was founded on.
country was all founded on equality for all...........looks like you need to pick someone else
@KLN - this country WASN'T founded on "Christian values" - that continues to be the flaw in the argument of those who seek to control others. This country was founded on FREEDOM - most notably OF RELIGION. Since your argument against the rights of others is based entirely on religion, it is - in fact - empty when it comes to law.
Does the Bible really say that? If so, where??
There has been some discussion on here about gay being a choice. The only choice I ever had in this matter was to realize, discover, and then accept that I am gay. No one wants to subject him or herself to ridicule and unequal rights for an arbitrary reason or for a simple 'choice', as some of you put it. Gay people are fighting for equal rights because this is an inherent aspect of WHO THEY ARE. God made us this way, and God loves us this way. Folks clinging to the Bible to support anti-gay rhetoric are naive and typically hypocritical in regards to the laws of the Old Testament. Don't forget, in the Old Testament, divorce was also punishable by death. This is why it is called the OLD Testament. And one last booya to the critics...MY PARTNER AND I OF 30+ YEARS ARE GETTING MARRIED IN JUNE IN NYC. Oh yeah, that's right, we are.
I beleive in live let live . Gays should be allowed equal opportunities and share a union of some kind just not a church wedding. You can doubt the bible but it clearly states to those of us who beleive that marriage is between a man & woman. Seems however making new laws to fit todays popular beliefs is the norm. But... It doesn't change a persons religious practices & beliefs.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals!!
Your choice to be a straight person sounds riveting! Tell me, how did you make that decision? Was it challenging? I'm just so taken by your oddessy. It's so awesome being gay; I can't imagine having chosen to be straight.
I don't mind straight people at this resort – what bothers me is when the hold hands. I mean, do they really have to flaunt it in front of the rest of us?
hahahahahahahahahhahhahaahaha = ) I love your post man
Ellen seemed pretty happy about it.
How stupid and gullable can Gays be? All Marxist Obama said was that he supports Gay marriage and you'll vote for him. He's not going to push for any bills to make it legal. Thirty two states have banned it and he has no intention of stopping it. He took your money and ran and you'll still vote for him. Don't take it personally but that's not too bright.
lol
You lost me at the word "Marxist." I was born before WWII and lived through the era of Marxism. Better you study history before tossing around such words.
Don't be a fool. "Gays" as you call them are not universally driven one way or the other based upon a simple pre-planned announcement.
The picture looks pretty tasty.
Mmmm... is that chocolate?
Seriously! I cant smoke where I want, 12 feet away from any entrance would be considered but still frowned upon, but now its legal for a person who is AIDS positive (or a much better carrier than myself who is totally straight) to test touch the freshness in a store of the their fruit or bread? Health insurance a thing of the past>
Are they licking or doing the veggies and bread? No? Your post is ridiculous. Stay in your cave.
was that english?
I support the move 100%. Research has shown gay couples tend to stay together much longer than straight couples. This would provide a much stabler atmosphere for children. But of course adoption would be the only way children would be involve anyway which leads to another up side, children waiting to be adopted may now find a home sooner than the current wait time, many children are still not adopted at all especially older ones. With the dismal rate of divorce between straight couples and the damage done to families and children from it, I dont see how gay marriage could be any worse. People are people. As to religion your church may object, my Lord does not.
This is not real important, but how do you conclude that only adoption would be a way for a gay couple to have a child? A male couple could use one or both sperm to conceive with an egg donor, a female couple could do the same with a sperm donor. I really don't understand what the big deal is about gay couples, I mean how does it affect anyone but the indivdiuals in the relationship? Why do people insist on making other people's business their business? This should not be up to the government, it should be a personal decision and the indivduals should have the right to choose who they fall in love with.
I think that this is a sad day for America and its following generation. Children brought up in that enviroment will never know right from wrong and the numbers will continue to climb. For leaders of this nation to support such gay marriage is beyond belief, and think that we live in a country with leaders even thinking that way is no wonder this country is back sliding on the fast track. I think that the President and Vice President have shook their finger in God's face to let him know that they are ruling God's people and that God's decision in creating a defined marriage is no longer usful and that it is fine to live in adbomination and to lay with the same flesh. We have lost an confidence in the leaders of this country to the level that God needs to come back soon to take back his people of this nation from destruction. Our leaders of this natiion should have the back bone to do the right thing even if people have their toes stepped on. God is the only leader that this country needs for all the other twisted minds have failed. If this country does not adjust to the living style that people desire then leave and fine one that will and stop catering to everyones style. What will be next?
Why should the country adjust to your style or belief its what you believe not what others believe. This is why religion has caused so many wars and death why the middle east is so screwed up do you think they live like god wants us to. I don't believe god is gonna come down here and punish me because what the country does if thats the case we would of all went to hell years .
Nonsense. This issue is all about Churches wanting a monopoly on marriage because it's big money for them. It's all about the greed of Churches. All this fantasy about God coming back etc. is exactly that – fantasy. Obama is doing the right thing – standing up for what is right, regardless of what some brainwashed Christians cultists think.
Not everybody believes the way you do. This isn't about what goes on in your church. People have the right to live their lives differently from you do. That's what freedom is.
Never know WHOSE right? Never know WHOSE wrong? Religious dogma does not equal the only 'right'.
LMAO two phrases for you:
Religious freedom -> that includes the freedom to NOT have a religion
Separation of church and state
Take your Biblical Bigotry elsewhere
Jerry you have a right to your own opinion, but for those of us who were bullied as children for being who and what we are, and for those of us who now have our own children who will someday never have to deal with the antiquated bigoted and religious-based belief system of the old codgers in this country, I think this is a very happy day in our history. In fact, kudos to the younger generations for having a firmer grasp on what is right and wrong than any generation before them – equality is right, discrimination on any basis is wrong.
