Open thread: Same-sex marriage and your life

This week, President Obama announced his personal support for same-sex marriage. The endorsement came a day after North Carolina voters passed a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage in their state.

So, we want to know - what does Obama's announcement mean to you? Will it make any difference in your life?

Yes indeed, the immoral are out numbering the moral in leaps and bounds and are encouraged to do so. Thus, the fall of a once great nation. History repeats.

Well, I think being gay is gross, but I also think religious people are nuts. Nature shows that the pieces don't fit, and common sense tells you that there isn't some big flying monster in the sky controlling things. To each his own I guess. I'll vote on the important issues like the economy.

Not Again, you are trying to pigeonhole me just like you do the Bible. You are taking literal words and not applying any thought to them. Just like you, I know what the Bible READS about most issues, but the Holy Spirit speaks through the words and gives them meaning, and that's how we determine what the Bible is saying. You do this, whether you will admit it or not. NO ONE actually lives by the literal word of the Bible, according to what each and every verse reads. Conservative Christians can't expect to be respected in their beliefs when they use the literal words in some cases, and then when you say to them that the Bible says that people in Jesus' time drank wine, they'll say things like, "the water wasn't safe then, so they had to drink it". Or, if you point out to them that the Bible (And Jesus) both speak against divorce, they talk about how bad the marriage is and it would be God's will that the couple split rather than do whatever longer and God will forgive them, etc. Why are you using literal words against gays, but not against everything else the Bible says things against: eating of meat, worshipping on the Sabbath (NO WHERE in the Bible does it say that church changes to Sundays after Jesus arose on the third day...that's just what we believe it is SAYING.), etc. You don't live your life according to every word of the Bible so why use it against people?

Hope y'all are taking these parts literally too...

      Ephesians 6:5
Slaves, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ.
      1 Peter 2:18
Slaves, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
      Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
      1 Corinthians 11:3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
      1 Corinthians 14:34-36
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
      Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
      1 Timothy 2:11-15
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.
      1 Peter 3:1
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands.

Good for you, but all Obama wants is your money and your vote. Think! The timing is perfect for his agenda.

  9. i do not think that word means what you think it means

"Equality" means everyone gets the same rights, even if you disapprove of some people.

Heck, I even concede that bigoted hicknorant delusional illiterate buttwipes get rights. Much as it pains me.

And the reason for that? : equality applies to everyone. Equally. Even if they do not comprehend what it means.

As for the actual question, gay marriage does not impact me personally except in the sense that improved conditions for all improve society as a whole. Oh, and if married couples could add their children to health plans then there would be fewer unpaid emergency room bills for everyone to absorb. And best of all,it would make my gay friends happy.

Happy = good. Hate = bad. Even the home schooled religious pignorant bigot nutbags could manage to do that much math.

One must use their head and not let the crazies in Hollywood dictate the "glamor" of being gay. It's not glamorous at all.

Re: Just trying to spread the word. Compromising christians hurts the Kingdom

Christians is plural. It should be HURT, not hurts. Sure can't be too credible if you can't even get subject-verb agreement correct. I pray that Jesus isn't too disappointed in you.

Now Sbssue1, we went over this in bed last night:

If "one" uses "one" as the subject, he or she can't later use "they" as the pronoun. Then your voice is soaked in ignorance, and we don't want that. We discussed this before you made your 3rd pass at me.

Marriage was around long before the Bible and the biggest attack on marriage came from the Protestants themselves...They coveted divorce and spread their filth all over the world.....For them to say they are protecting anything is laughable.....
