Mary Kennedy, from whom Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed for divorce in 2010, is dead, said an employee of the Westchester County, New York, medical examiner's office on Wednesday.
The employee, who declined to give his name, told CNN he would provide no further details about the manner and cause of death.
The family released a statement saying, "We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation."
The Bedford (New York) Police Department earlier confirmed they were investigating a possible unattended death at 326 South Bedford Road, an address owned by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Authorities found a deceased individual inside "an out building" on the property, police said in a statement.

So? A friend of my family died and it didn't make the news. Should we start calling CNN Star Magazine?
What an excellent way to honor your friend's memory. With bitterness.
Get real you jerk.
CNN has been a tabloid for the last dozen years or so
was your family friend a part of one of the biggest American political families in history? what an idiotic comment.
Radaronline was the first to report this news. Not CNN.
Sorry to hear about your friend, Bob. It's really big of the people responding to your alleged bitterness by dishing out bitterness in return. "I hate people who hate!" Fail.
Makes it sound like both wives died....
Hahaha no, luckily the first one got rid of the Kennedy name before the curse targeted her.
and yeah, CNN should reword that.
Only to folks who don't understand punctuation.
Aternative headline: "Mary Kennedy, spouse of Robert Kennedy, Jr., passes away." What order she occupied in the rotation doesn't matter. This non-event typifies the scraping going on in the non-stop news business. In industrial terms, this is called overcapacity.
That's not the original headline, Michelle, but hey, your pithy comment is noted and discarded. First one said "Second wife of RK Jr. Dead." How would you interpret that, Genius?
Yawn.
52 is so young.
Your friend isn't noteworthy. Ms. Kennedy's dead is. Simple as that.
Not sure if this is true, being on Wikipedia, but someone edited Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s wikipedia page saying she died in an apparent suicide.
It was a suicide. You didn't know that?
I heard that she died in a suicide as well from Radar Online. but this has not yet been confirmed. Sending lots of prayers and well wishes to the Kennedy family. It's always sad when someone feels so tortured that they take their life
and cue the right wing troll hate in 3...2...1...
Why is this BREAKING NEWS? CNN, are you kidding me?
Tony, try to write something that makes sense.
Judy, I admit, I was writing hastely. "Death" instead of dead. I was replying to Bob, the first poster. People die all the time, including my father this last month. But I don't blame the media for not reporting it. Mary Kennedy is a noteworthy figure and CNN leans liberal. Just the facts.
Tony you are exactly right. Whoever says it is not newsworthy is just ignorant. Case closed.
God bless this woman and her family.
BREAKING NEWS: Someone died in the U.S.
exactly Tony! Mitchell Guist was more well known and its gone from the news in 1 day
From People.com:
Mary Kennedy, the estranged second wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead at her Bedford, N.Y., home on Wednesday, according to ABC News. She was 52.
Police issued a statement confirming that they were investigating a "possible unattended death" at 326 South Bedford Road on Wednesday afternoon. Police reports also confirm that officers found "a deceased individual … inside an out building on that property." But the police report withheld the individual's name until a family notification had been made, and no further details were immediately available.
Multiple online sources identified the deceased person as Mary Kennedy.
In May 2010, Robert, the son of former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, filed for divorce from Mary after 16 years of marriage. Details of their divorce filing were kept private.
At the time of the filing, police were summoned to Kennedy's home for a "domestic incident," according to reports. Robert, a radio host and environmental activist, alleged his wife was intoxicated.
Three days later, Mary was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police spotted her running over a curb near her home. Police said she had a .11 blood alcohol level. She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, was fined $500 and had her license suspended for 90 days.
In August 2010, she was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after speeding down the Taconic State Parkway, according to AP reports at the time. She was determined to be under the influence of prescription medication.
Mary is survived by Robert, 58, and their children Conor, Kyra, William and Aiden.
Good post. You are a better reporter than they are, but then again that isn't hard, no offense intended to you..
Not newsworthy whatsoever.
