The CNN Daily Mash-up is a roundup of some of the most interesting, surprising, curious, poignant or significant items to appear on CNN.com in the past 24 hours. We'll top it with a collection of the day's most striking photographs.
CNN iReporter Eric Rossicci, a lifelong photographer, shot some astonishing photos of wild herons fishing in the waters of Tsawwassen, British Columbia. "There is a rookery nearby, and at this time of year, the herons are busy building their nests and fishing," he said. "The inevitable fight for fishing territory follows as can be expected, so it's always fun to watch them and capture them doing what they do best. They are so engrossed in fishing that they don't mind people getting close to them, which makes it easy for me to get their pictures."
Easy for you, maybe, Eric.
The robots are on our side. The Recon Scout.XT robot is small enough to be carried in a backpack and can be tossed over a wall or through a window to beam back pictures to soldiers outside. Check it out:
Friends of four Florida children who police say were fatally shot by their mother were stunned Tuesday when they found out their classmates were dead. School officials broke the tragic news over the public address system at Space Coast Junior-Senior High School in Cocoa, Florida. Malcolm Murray, a friend of slain teenager Jaxs Johnson, told CNN affiliate WKMG:
It's unfair she had to take his life. I cried so much I can't cry anymore.
Mike Minger doesn't usually frame his gasoline receipts. But this one is a little different. "Twenty-six gallons of gas, for just over $9. I am going to frame it," Minger told CNN affiliate WAOW. Minger is one of dozens who capitalized on a pricey mistake at a BP Station in Plover, Wisconsin. It all started about 8:30 Monday night: A representative for Riiser Energy, which owns the gas station, said an employee accidentally keyed in $0.379 instead of $3.79, making medium-grade gasoline only 37.9 cents per gallon. Hundreds of drivers lined up, hoping to fill their tanks for cents on the dollar.
Atlanta's airport has a heavenly new international terminal.
Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, already the world's busiest airport, debuted its long-awaited new international terminal Wednesday. Traveling through Atlanta can be - how shall we say? - challenging at times, as a couple of commenters noted:

If you die and go to hell, you have to go through Atlanta's airport first.
Tankeray
Not as bad as you'd think. Half the time your trip to hell gets canceled or delayed.
Facebook honchos - perhaps even the Head Hoodie himself, CEO Mark Zuckerberg - will finally tell the world Thursday how much shares of the social network will cost when they are offered for sale to the public. Are you in?
Good for our military, robots & all.
i just hope that like drones they are not slated for deployment at home. Patriot Act,you know.
We know from the Bible that God is pro-holiness and pro-righteousness, but to say that God is “pro-war” doesn’t sound like any description I have ever read in a systematic theology book. American Christians have, by and large, transformed faith in God into faith in the American nation-state, especially as it regards war.
Not looking for a religious debate, but "God" has been at the forefront of many wars and not just since the existence of America. The corruption of the Catholic churches all across Europe led to thousands of innocents being executed, and that isn't even taking into account the casualties of the crusades alone. God is the general, America adapted that from other countries that have been employing such principles for centuries. Learn your history.
Amen. People in general around the world try to transpose the meaning of the words to fit their agendas and have for centuries. Example: The Crusades of the Catholic Church that killed millions of Jews
I did make my apologies after this post and stated that I forgot to change my s/n before posting @ 7:36 yet Cnn deletes it.
Good evening saywhat 🙂 Are you going to be around tonight or what? I rarely get to chat with you sir! lol
blind obedience to and trust in the state directly contradict obedience to and trust in God. God's war will be just and swift as his army carries out *his* will and not that of mans. "He will bring ruin to those ruining the earth."
(speaking to Jewish religious leaders) "If God were your Father you would love me...you are from your father the Devil...he is the father of the lie...This is why you do not listen, because you are not from God."–John 8:42-47.
hence, The war between the Father of *truth and the Father of the *lie*
Take your pick, folks !
If God is our Father, then Satan must be our cousin. Why is it no one else understands these important things?
@ Justin @ toadears, That would be the *false* religions approving of war, not God.
@saywhat. US drones already patrol our southern border, the most-violent stretch of real estate on earth.
Remember Ronnie Reagan ordering Gorby to "Tear down this wall", the wall seperating E and W Germany? Just as the London Bridge was disassymbled and reconstructed over a lake in Arizona, that wall was "reassymbled" south of San Diego, where more people have died trying to get over it than ever died trying to get over Germany's wall.
And ever since Columbian drug lords were taken out, namely Escobar, Mexico is the new Columbia. I see it moving even further north but south of Canada...and I see drones patrolling South-Central LA, for example, in the very near future. (acourse i got these big eyes looking everywhere except TV for decades. I may be the oldest living North American to never own a TV. Not counting Eskimos. 🙂
excuse me.... the US/Mexican border looks like Mr. Rogers backyard compared to, let's say Congo, most of the nations in central Africa, Syria, the Gaza Strip. Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. etc. Not trying to be argumentative, only providing clarification
god isnt real... sorry dudes
@ Mary @ Philip
