Four tons of marijuana pulled from ocean off California

Authorities found almost four tons of marijuana with a street value of $3.6 million floating in the ocean off Dana Point, California, on Sunday.

Boats from the Border Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Orange County sheriff's office were involved in recovering the 160 bales of marijuana, according to a report from CNN affiliate KCBS.

A tip led authorities to the marijuana floating in the Pacific Ocean about 13 miles off Dana Point, the station reported.

Border Patrol spokesman Michael Jimenez told the Orange County Register that the fact that the pot was found with no suspected drug boats in the area was unusual.

"At other events, they've dumped the bales to get rid of weight if they're being chased. Generally in these cases we're aware they're being dumped. What's more unusual is that the bales were floating with no boat in sight," the Register quotes Jimenez as saying.

  2. WhatWhatWhat?

It was probably dropped there as a diversionary tactic. While the Feds were busy picking it out of the ocean, ten times that much just cruised on by.

Just because someone tests positive for marijuana does not mean they were high at the time.

  7. Your Point?

Yet, hundreds to thousands die each day from drinking and driving, texting, phone use, idiocy. What's your point? Or is this just some brainless dribble from yet another clueless person? Impaired driving is impaired driving, whether it's alcohol, drugs (prescription or illicit), texting, phone use.

  8. Get real

"A police spokesman who declined to give his name said the man, a Moroccan national, had tested positive for marijuana." The fact that he was speeding on a country two lane road in Italy didn't have anything to do with it. He passed another car and plowed into a group of cyclist that he didn't see. This happens all the time to people that don't drink or smoke. It was an accident pure and simple. Testing positive for marijuana is not a valid proof due to the fact that he could have smoked the day before and still test positive. If you know anything about back roads in Italy, then you should know they are deadly.

Get real. While I'm sure there have been some cannabis related driving deaths it's NOTHING like alcohol:

(From the CDC): Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This amounts to one death every 48 minutes. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $51 billion.

This doesnt count the bar fights, beat up wives and liver failure.
