A British woman could face the death penalty after being found with an estimated $2.6 million worth of cocaine in her luggage by Indonesian authorities.
Lindsay June Sandiford, 55, was found to have blocks of cocaine weighing almost 4.8 kilograms in her suitcase after she arrived on the island of Bali on a Thai Airways flight earlier this month, government officials said.
Sandiford, described by British media reports as a housewife, did not speak as she was paraded at a press conference Monday wearing a prison-issue orange T-shirt.
Three other Britons - one woman and two men - and an Indian man are also being questioned, Bali police narcotics chief Mulyadi told reporters. They are accused of being part of an international syndicate, he said.
What if she had been caught knowing her husband had been abusing boys for many years yet she never reported it to the police? Are boys worth less than cocaine, in other words.
Pointless question. You're imputing your values and culture onto Indonesia. Their country, their rules. The child molestation that freaks westerners out doesn't register so highly there, and the drugs you've rationalized as being fine still are a big deal in many places. Do your homework before you undertake drug smuggling, and don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
What a fine deterrent Lindsay's execution will be for others. The example she sets in death will have greater societal benefit than anything she's done in life.
You should seriously get some help philip
Like, what if all that love came in the form of high powered drugs? Might the ones prescribing or doing the drugs also be the ones who need help rather than the one mentioning it? Might a woman who has known of her husbands abusive ways with even younger males also be facing harsh justice along with her mandusky.
oops! poor thing she picked the wrong place to get caught...the contradictions, isn't it legal to have a poppy farm in indonesia...appears she was exporting it...not selling it in indonesia...
It is not.
Thailand and Singapore also have similir laws on drugs smuggling.
Pardon the typo.
Poppy (heroin) production is up 800% since the US invaded and occupied Afghanistan. source: World Health org. (The former government had all but eliminated the poppy fields) Interestingly, Afghanistans HIV rate was ZERO until being invaded by westerners. Now it rivals Israel and Saudi Arabias hiv rate. (source: CIA World Factbook)
Whats good and free in the USA might not be good and free for the world?
@ The Koran
You are right about the poppy cultivation. However that HIV statement is news and needs to be verified.
