Guitar legend Doc Watson remains in critical condition

Bluegrass music legend Doc Watson remains in critical condition at a hospital in a North Carolina following surgery last week, a hospital representative said late Monday.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was unable to provide additional information, but the Winston-Salem Journal reported that Watson's family was called to his bedside Sunday after he took a turn for the worse.

"Doc had a difficult day, but seems to have pulled through OK," according to a post Sunday on the website of Folklore Productions, which is run by the singer's representative, Mitch Greenhill. "His condition is now pretty much where it was when the day began."

Watson, a Grammy winning musician known for his flatpicking and fingerstyle technique on the guitar, had colon surgery Thursday and then a follow-up procedure two days later.
