Arizona Governor Jan Brewer issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled on her state's controversial immigration law:
U.S. Supreme Court Decision Upholds Heart of SB 1070
“Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court is a victory for the rule of law. It is also a victory for the 10th Amendment and all Americans who believe in the inherent right and responsibility of states to defend their citizens. After more than two years of legal challenges, the heart of SB 1070 can now be implemented in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.
“While we are grateful for this legal victory, today is an opportunity to reflect on our journey and focus upon the true task ahead: the implementation and enforcement of this law in an even-handed manner that lives up to our highest ideals as American citizens. I know the State of Arizona and its law enforcement officers are up to the task. The case for SB 1070 has always been about our support for the rule of law. That means every law, including those against both illegal immigration and racial profiling. Law enforcement will be held accountable should this statute be misused in a fashion that violates an individual’s civil rights.
“The last two years have been spent in preparation for this ruling. Upon signing SB 1070 in 2010, I issued an Executive Order directing the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) to develop and provide training to ensure our officers are prepared to enforce this law efficiently, effectively and in a manner consistent with the Constitution. In recent days, in anticipation of this decision, I issued a new Executive Order asking that this training be made available once again to all of Arizona’s law enforcement officers. I am confident our officers are prepared to carry out this law responsibly and lawfully. Nothing less is acceptable.
“Of course, today’s ruling does not mark the end of our journey. It can be expected that legal challenges to SB 1070 and the State of Arizona will continue. Our critics are already preparing new litigation tactics in response to their loss at the Supreme Court, and undoubtedly will allege inequities in the implementation of the law. As I said two years ago on the day I signed SB 1070 into law, ‘We cannot give them that chance. We must use this new tool wisely, and fight for our safety with the honor Arizona deserves.’”

Is the governor getting different information than what I am? I'm getting that the majority of the S.B. 1070 provisions have been struck down by the Supreme Court and the one remaining will be under intense scrutiny and may create more problems than solutions for Arizona should the state attempt to execute that provision.
Jan Brewer declare a 75% loss as a victory. More importantly, the decision affirms the federal preemption on immigration law. This is Brewer's victory for the 10th Amendment?
Apparently. When your the leader of a pack of fools, even your obvious failures become heralded as success!
She is another racist idiot like the rest of her party. These crazy people will soon see how all of these racist decisions impact the local state economy. they will than be calling for federal help when they run out of more money.
It's crazy to want the Fed to enforce the law ?
A victory? Just whioh part of this ruling was a victory? Just goes to show you what you get with incompetents in charge of things.
Amen!
The governor is an idiot and an embarrassment to civilized society.
Baghdad Bob strikes again.
The Republicans will of course be in denial and will try to spin this a victory. It isn't. Basically the SC reminded AZ that the US gov't trumps state law in the case of immigration.
Exactly, now the Feds have to actually enforce the law.
Hey everybody, on the count of three, turn around 3 times and "Self Deport" Jan Brewer is trying to make a bad decision for her look good. Jim Crow laws should be outlawed. There is no room in this country for bigots. That is what should be made a law. Pull anybody over in a car and ask them to see their bigot papers.
The West and Mid-West rejects are running Maricopa County, and unfortunately AZ.
They could not make it or retire in their own states and moved mostly to Maricopa and brought all their hate and "idiotic" thinking. JB, Arpio, etc..., many moved here in past 10-15 years..
My biggest disappointment is with the Mormon community, which I owe so much in some cases and used to have some sense of fairness an direction, but many (3/4 ) provided their support to these rejects' agenda.
She says, this is a victory. And police has to ask all of us for our passports ?
Stick your finger in your own nose and see if you can find your brain.
lol
I've never seen a governor who looked so much like an alcoholic. Ahh, the crazed right wing spin begins. We won. So when Romney loses, they will have won yet again?
Jan is RIGHT. It IS a VICTORY in that police can now check the I.D's of everyone they stop "for cause", and export those they find are here in this country illegally. THAT is the win..the heart of the matter. The other 75% was much less important and not being implemented anyway. Illegal immigrants should get a good pair or running shoes, because the chase is ON.
As an Arizona resident, I am happy to confirm that this lady, our governor, is 100% crazy. This is the garbage the rest of the state endures because of Maricopa county. While illegal immigration is a problem in Arizona, perhaps the larger problem is having such racist and useless leaders in executive offices. Then again, what do you expect when the only education the governor of your state has is an x-ray technologist certificate from a local community college. Yikes.
We knew that but thanks for the confirmation. I'm glad you brought up the who x-ray tech thing because again there is no way, someone with a limited education like herself should ever be governor. We need to demand more of those we elect. An x-ray tech as your governor? Arizona are you proud of this?
HOw the heck can you call someone racist because they want to enforce immigration laws? That is just insane. Our country is going down the tubes....fast...and this issue is a major reason. We are teh only country in the world who doesnt enforce its immigration laws. Why have laws in place if they are not going to be enforced? Who gets to decide what laws get enforced and what ones dont? I am sick of this. If its illegal to sneak into this country then it is illegal..period...someone please tell me how they see it as ok to illegally sneak into this country....please...
It was legal when the pilgrims landed right? Or are we going to play revisionist historian to hide or xenophobic and bigoted views again? Did you ever consider that one of the reasons why people may come to this country illegally is that coming here legally could be quite expensive with no guarantee off success even if you do everything by the book? Are you even aware of out country's immigration laws and the process itself? Familiarize yourself with it first......
This Governor believes that American people are basically DUMB.
Lmao, so sad but true. She's made it clear
Yeah it sounds like a loss, until you consider, by far the most important part she won.
How did she win when that part of the bill would just be following protocols that were already in place? Besides, it opens the door for racial profiling......
