Does anyone else remember him as Kat in "All Quiet on the Western Front?"
Borgnine was truly an actor's actor. He took rules that others might have thought were beneath them, because he loved the work. As a child, my favorite movie was "The Poseidon Adventure." Unlike Gene Hackman, who feels he "lowered" himself by doing that movie, Borgnine loved to talk about his experience on that picture. He absolutely transcended generations – he was the voice of Mermaidman in Spongebob Squarepants. Thank you Mr. Borgnine for sharing your talent with all of us.
...and the taxi driver in "escape from n.y." with kurt russell. ther theme from american bandstand playing over and over in his cab
No takers? I will just have my pepperoni pizza.
Aw, McHale's Navy...
RIP Mr. Borgnine.
I wish I could have shaken his hand!

R.I.P. My Friend..
You 'WILL' be Missed..
Many people may not know this, but he played the centurion in the 1977 film "Jesus of Nazareth" who said at the foot of Calvary's cross, "surely this was the son of God".
They made me watch that in catholic school in the 80s and he was the only actor I recognized. He was a good fit as a Roman Soldier.
No mention of Mermaid Man from SpongeBob?
Loved him in Emperor of the North as the sadistic train conductor. RIP, sir.
dang...dang...dang...another star of the black&white is passin' us by...
No one knows the great things he did as a member of the Masonic Lodge and as a Shriner. May you have fairwinds and following seas Ernest
Let us mark his resting place with a sprig of Acacia.
I meant Ernie, not Marty. I was just watching a clip from "Marty" and the name stuck in my head. Rest in Peace, Ernie.
When I was about 16 or so, a friend of mine drove me to New Haven, CT and I saw Mr Borgnines twin brother who
was the spitting image, driving a carriage powered by a horse down the street. It was just like seeing his famous brother, but that is as close as I ever got, and I guess ever will. RIP my friend and thank you for all the wonderful childhood memories of the movies and TV series I watched with you in them.
So Captain Binghampton finally got his wish. "McHale, you and your goons are through." What a loss for all. What a great honest, kind, funny man we have lost. They do not make classic personas like E.B. anymore. McHale's Navy is one of my all time favorite sitcoms! I was always funny and Ernie was the hinge pin to the whole show. I respect and honor is great career as making America laugh, cry and a better place. A real gem of a man. God Bless you...Sir!
