I love how you all argue about your rights to carry weapons. Yet no one is concerned why it took 25 minutes for the police to show up? This is a tragedy because of a sick man and because of the 911 workers and police.

You should do your research before you decide to go around bashing the cops. They were on scene in less than 2 minutes. Had it been 25 minutes there would have been a whole lot mor than 12 dead.

Taking away people's guns isn't the answer. like a rogue wave stuff like this just happens, often for little or no reason. Also, citizens owning guns has helped keep government power in check all throughout the ages (and not just guns, swords, picks, farming equipment, etc...). The government you are under could very easily take law into its own hands and force things upon it's populace through the force of their guns. Not saying they would, just that they could. This has also taken place throughout history. A ruler or rulers attempts to force their people to obey and eventually they are overthrown by their own people who retaliate.

Still however with all that being said, I do think it's time we took a look at how a person might acquire a gun legally. Taking them away isn't an answer, but making them harder to get could be a closer way of getting there.

This is no longer the question of self-defense, carrying a gun or something like that. The question here is, how can a man with weapons enter the theatre?! Aren't there security personnel in the area?? Could you just carry guns with you these days unnoticed??

Remember, he bought those guns legally. Therefore, the answer here is not about being able to carry weapons. The issue is about the security of establishments.

The OLD AR 15, then the M16, now the M4! ALL powerful weapons as seen in this tragedy, even to the extent that it penetrated the wall into the next theater, wounding one person. While legally obtainable, for what purpose? They are NOT a hunting rifle, unless you think it is OK to put 20 – 40 or 60 rounds downrange if you miss your first shot. And the AR 15 and M 16 is SO easy to convert to fully auto fire! I totally agree with the right to carry, but you are always going to have "nuts". What scares me is, God forbid, the day someone gets a BARRET 50 Cal. and goes crazy! Let me say that this "thing", in my opinion, is NOT crazy! Way to much thought and planning. Look at the situation at his apartment. They are saying he has so many boobytraps set up that they are going to have to send in a robot to blow it up! These are NOT the actions of a deranged, crazy person! This "thing" showed no consideration or mercy to those innocent people killed. It should receive the same consideration when it is put out of its misery!

Till we have a law to prevent selling guns, we will see those kind of psycho accidents, cut the root of the problems.

This kind of insanity will not be stopped with laws, rules or regulations. Those are for sane, rational people, but they pose no threat.

@Frued you are right but if those sane does not have access to guns and other tools they can't execute their insane plans. There are many other countries that have more insane people than in US but they can't do nothing because simply they don't have access to guns

Because the laws that ban drugs have successfully gotten rid of every illegal drug... Oh wait, they haven't. Drugs are still rampart and them being illegal doesn't make them unobtainable. I don't understand how you can seriously believe that guns being outlawed will magically mean that no guns are possessed by private individuals. Do you seriously think a gun ban is going to deter an individual who is willing to shoot babies, children, and women? Absolutely not. This situation would've still happened regardless of gun laws.

What if someone in the theater had a permit that allowed them to carry a handgun for protection? It's quite possible they could've disabled this man seconds after he fired the first round. Lives could've been saved and dozens of injuries prevented.

By banning guns you are basically making every citizen defenseless against maniacs like this guy.

Sure you can't prevent guns totally because there will be still black market like what happen in the drugs case but it definitely will make it harder, it is easy look at other countries that have way more crazy and insane people than USA, banning drugs and guns minimized those accidents dramatically but it seems here in US there is some big business and stupid politics behind guns like we are living in dark ages and this what prevent rational people to issue such laws.

We should also ban hands because people make fists with them and then beat people to death. We should also ban metal of any kind as it can be heated and forged into a knife. You're logic is flawless. lol

    • Raed Al-Jawad

@wordclock your examples are stupid actually, it seems you reach a point you used to guns that you consider them like hands and knife, this is not my logic this proved to be working in other countries , you need to expose yourself to other experiences (countries) even countries that have passed through wars. It simple if you give a gun to insane people they will use it, why that is hard to comprehend!

I agree. US is the only country I know where you can buy guns so easily. Why is it so difficult to ban the sales of guns?

I think because there are such big business and politics behind it and also some narrow minded people that think selling guns are just like any other business!.

the sale of guns does not mean that everyone that owns a gun is going to go out shooting... GUNS DONT KILL PEOPLE ...PEOPLE THAT ARENT IN THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND KILL PEOPLE... i honestly think if someone else was there with a concelled carry they couldve fired back..even out the odds a bit...

Yes but you can't guarantee everyone posing guns is not insane!! SIMPLY, If those crazy people does not have access to guns THEY CANT execute their INSANE plans. I can't understand after so many examples of massive killing , people still thing selling guns is not part of the problem, I agree it is not the whole problem but it is big part of the problem, banning them will do impact and help in minimizing those accidents because simply YOU CANT CONTROL INSANE PEOPLE, YOU CONTROL THEIR TOOLS.

The 'root' of the problem is the insane thinking and evil thoughts of these people who commit these attrocities. The guns are not the problem. If you outlaw them, then only the law-abiding people will pay attention. If he wanted to do this and didn't have guns, he has already proven he can make explosive devices and maybe more people would have been killed. You can make those with household chemicals and products. Shall we outlaw those too?

ok so lets also remove speeding in highways, make min age to drink is 12, this does not make sense, the more harder you make it to posses those killing tools the less accident, you cant prevent it at all but you can minimize it.

This story has smelled fishy to me from the start. Emergency exit doors in theaters ALWAYS open out, toward the street. How then could gunman have kicked the door IN? Did he have assistance? If the gunman's face was completely hidden by gasmask, how then could police have identified Mr. Holmes as the shooter? Why the sudden surrender, too? And who is the "blue and white plaid-shirted individual" named in the police scanner transcript? What type of neuroscience was this individual studying? Betcha the Univ of CO studies mind control. Manchurian candidate

The fact that he was found behind the theater wearing a gas mask and full body armor, carrying TWO long guns, might have been a clue to police. And you want someone carrying a handgun to have a shootout in a crowded theater with a guy carrying an assault rifle in full body armor? Not to mention tear gas. Sheesh...

Guns are NOT the cause of tragedies like this!!! Mentally imbalanced PEOPLE cause these tragedies. Machine guns are being sold legally but they are NOT for hunting deer or elk. They are for mass killing and are needed in the hands of trained soldiers of our armies, not private citizens. Private citizens DO need to be armed for personal protection. Disarmed citizens will be victims of their govts. as seen in Germany when Hitler took over and murdered millions.

Oh please, now you're being hysterical, Hitler didn't get to do what he did because people didn't have assault rifles and hand guns, gees. No wonder America IS hysteria personified with comments like that. The deal is if you don't make guns so easily and readily accessible, and the ability to purchase amo over the internet (how dangerously irresponsible), then it won't be so easy for so many to have so much they can use against people with such devastation. As for fists and knives, yes sure they are dangerous and kill, but you can't wound and/or kill an entire room with them all at once. Get real people, until you do, your loved ones will continue to go down in hails of bullets just because a few of you have some ingrained fear of not being able to own a bunch of guns. No one says you shouldn't be able to have guns, but it should be restricted to things like firepower, how much amo etc., but you lot sell/trade/exchange them in bulk for crying out loud, that's insane.

MSM manages to saturate their readers with photos of suspect and their family, if not upload webshots of their Facebook pages, etc. You're telling me the best that "journalists" can find on this guy is where he went to high school? That he was withdrawing from Univ of CO? Come on! Do your jobs! What type of neuroscience was this fellow studying? What the heck is micro RNA adapters? Sounds like a brain chip to me? What type of DOD studies are conducted at the local military base? And what's this I hear that Holmes asked to speak to someone at the Navy? The Pentagon claims having no relationship with this young man. Sounds like Oswald all around. So sorry for the victims and their families for their loss. Almost as bad is that their government is up to something. Too bad our journalists act like sheep.

Out of all the mindless media coverage Governor of Colorado John Hickenlooper at least had something intelligent to say. "One thing to keep in mind. This is the act apparently of a very deranged mind. This is a safe City, State and Country. We need to recognize that we can't allow people that are aberrations of nature to take away the joys and freedoms that we enjoy."
