Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.
The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.
The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.
"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."
On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.
He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.
Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.
FULL STORY
This has be the GREATEST ADVERTISING GIMMICK of all times. Cathy has the company name on the front page of every in American and has motivatived more people to come in to chick-fil- a than any tv ad or bill board campaign could ever do. In the future we can see companies taking hot button issues–make a statement then have people come down and flood your business in support or in opposition to your statement. Then you take all that money to the bank. Simply brillant. Hats off to Cathy.
They just can't take a picture of chic-fil-a without a fat person in it. Even the one above!
The sad thing here is that there are kids living in cars and people out of work for years.
People losing their homes and men and women in our military being killed.
This is what you selfish self serving children choose to support.????
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???
You all need to grow up and learn to fight a COMMON ENEMY...NOT EACH OTHER.
Excellent reply!!!!
COMMON ENEMY = Liberal Progressive Communists !
Now everyone can resume to not eating there today.
the record for the most bigots in a crappy chain restaurant? these are all the same morons who arent wealthy and think its a good idea to vote for mitt romney
You make a good point here...a statement like 'a record setting day' could mean anything and not necessarily more customers, more sales, more revenue, etc.
Just because someone has a different opinion, that doesn't make them a bigot. You could vote for Mitt Romney for a number of different reasons. You appear to be the small minded individual
Don't be too sure about that.
The record for most teed of liberals in one blog, LOL... all the way to the bank !
I hope that anyone who eats at one of these places enjoys a nice, painful myocardial infarction-
All of these religious leaders are leading society to hell's gate and getting rich while doing so.
Yeah... because everyone knows that sticking your schmeckle in another guys poo-poo tunnel is the only way to the promised land, right?
This chain is prejudice against non-christians. My son did not get a job from them because he wasn't christian enough.
I won't be eating there.....EVER...
Right, maybe your sone just wasn't up to par. Stop blaming other people for your woes in life.
Did they have seperate lines for people of color?
Because of all the people that aren't wealthy and are thriving in the Obama economy?
It's sad how those who SCREAM for tolerance are so INTOLERANT of those of us who don't share their opinion on particular issues. Though I do not agree with you, I don't find it necessary to call you hateful names or wish you harm. You know who you are.
I agree 100 percent.
Right on Nancy!!!!
Fine. Let the franchise have one record day. The rest of us will boycott them the other 364 days of the year in the hopes that the chain goes belly up or that the owners come to their senses. (If they have any.)
You'd have to be a fanatic to buy a franchise from them now. I'm betting another company will come in and eat their lunch over the next two years. What they have lost is a huge number of REGULAR customers, which won't be replaced by busing-in kids to inflate sales. They sponsor Little League teams, and those are already being taunted as they play; next year the kids won't want to be on the Gay Chicken team. Our PTO decided not to use them for a carwash last week because so many people were negative; they used a burger place instead. When sales drop enough, they will go public and be bought out by PepsiCo, which will end the donations to lobbyists and get back into the food business.
and that would be great for american business, that we all begin to boycott people we don't agree with.
Time for life to go on
Romney has inspired so many godly followers to value the traditional family of 7 wives. One for each day of the week.
Amazing how you selectively forget that Obama's father had numerous wives and his grandfather had 4 wives.
Romney has only had 1 wife, his father had one wife and his grandfather had one wife.
I'm only sorry that there are no CFA stores near me, so I could support them.
My support is not based on the opinion of the owners, it is based on the intolerance and bullying of the far left vermin who intend to destroy a good company because of that opinion.
I totally agree!
Your definition of intolerance is in-correct. You fail to understand that when someone says something that is free speech, and when someone opposes, that is free speech as well. I assure you there is no bullying. I am gay and respect this man voice and opinions, he can keep them. I also voice my opinion to say that keeping people who love each other from having the same rights is bigotry.
