'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

I agree with the sentiment, but I would feel really bad for the kid. The sad thing is that a lot of people that spew this hatred probably have a gay kid and just don't know it. You might want to take another look at your son's "roommate."

A one-day sales bump. Good for them. Unless you can eat greasy chicken sandwiches every day, the net result will be a loss of business. If I was a Chick Fil A franchisee, I'd be royally unhappy with the corporate office.

Does freedom of speech only apply to certain people? Are we trying to make freedom of speech politically correct now too? Not EVERYONE will approve of the gay lifestyle, get over it.

Chick-fil-a had a "record setting" sales day yesterday prompted by all the people that were standing up for the company's first amendment rights. When an atheist says that prayer is just you talking to yourself and that god is nothing more than an imaginary friend, well that is just spewing hate. Funny it's only Freedom of Speech when the religious agree with the speech.

I dont think Jesus would have eaten any of the food from Chick-fil-a, except the fruit cup. There is plenty of evidence in the bible itself to support the fact that Jesus ate fish and even prepared fish for his disciples. So a trip to Fish-fil-a is ok in my book – that is if it exists. However I do believe in free sppech in as much as Mr. Cathy has the freedom to air his views, I have the freedom not to ever step into Chik-fil-a.

and no one cares if you go there or not. you probably should stay home and hide as there are hundreds of companies that support the same views. But, let me guess – you have lots of made in china in your house, which means you support communism. and, you buy gas for your car which means you support OPEC who are known for executing gays and lesbians.... so you're just a down right hypocrite getting in line with others. So, please do stay out of CFA... there's no room for hateful people like you.

We live in a free country. Let them eat chicken. We can believe what we want and have our own opinions. That's one of the many things that make this country great. You can be for or against gay marriage. It's your right to think on your own.
I'll still be eating at Chick fil A and if any if my gay friends get married I'll be at their wedding with bells on. It's not easy to stand up for what you believe in. I give both sides credit for speaking their mind, Can't we all just get along?

Surely you mean "Free country unless you are gay." CFA goes out of their way to support organizations that lobby congress to take away gay peoples freedom to pursue happiness. Why?
