'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Too funny! People exercised their freedom to get fat and freedom to hate. Gotta love the first amendment and the high fat diet that is America. And CFA gets to double dip on the spending by the love in on Friday. Is this a great country, or what?

A large fat lesbian with striped white and black hair stuck her head out of the window of her car while we were waiting in line to get our food last night and screamed obscenities at everyone. She was really nasty looking and looked like a bulldog.

Perhaps you're used to all right-wingers thinking alike, but not all lesbians, liberals, gays, and lefties think with the same brain. People are individuals, not cookie-cutter products. Also, just a heads-up - not all black people can tap dance.

I have listen to the whole Chick-Fil-A drama for the past week and the arguments that CEO has a right to free speak. If you do believe in the freedom of speak, answer this question “Why is it fine to picket or boycott an company when they announce that there do in fact believe in equal rights for everyone including gay marriages. Now when the tables are turned then there is a large outcry of injustice. I think there is a lot of people the not take inventory of themselves.

A lesson in unintended consequences. These people are who they are, just like the founder of Curves who showers money on anti-choice efforts. If you don't want this guy to have money to give to anti-gay causes, don't eat his junk food. If you eat it, know that you're funding his anti-gay contributions. All the hoopla trying to shame him or shut him down just makes him a martyr to the right wing, so they go buy his crap food and we all find new reasons to dislike each other. Let's all get over it. I'll give to my causes, right-wingers will give to theirs, and the best ideas will triumph on the intellectual battlefield over time.

On what is that 1/3 figure based? If what you say is true, it is not the COO who will be hurt, but the thousands who own and work at each individually owned/operated Chick-Fil-A. What a sad day that Americans have become so mentally shallow that they cannot understand that simple consequence.

Sure it was dummy , it is about civil rights, which every american has and no one in this society is exempt from. If you don't like something and your belief is projected upon someone else then you are supporting either. If someone wants to live a life different than yours, then so be it because if you truely believe in religion, you would not judge anyone else because you have the same fat as everyone else; born to die and be jdged by God almighty.

That's where you are wrong. Nobody is denying his right to free speech. There are always consequences. Just as he has the right to free speech, others have a right to not want to eat at chick-fil-a. You need to understand that if somebody is actively supporting groups that are against other groups, those groups have a right to boycott and to speak up. Freedom of speech. Freedom period!

While I understand you are delusional let me just say that "morals" do not come from religion so stop suggesting it. I know way more atheists with more sound morals than you know pedofile priests. Morality is a basic thought process based on intelligence. Since Religion does not equal intelligence then moraility does not need religion.
