'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Likely they will lose a third of their business over this and have to close most of their 'stand-alone' store, falling back on the mall-based model they started with. This will signal their vulnerability and other franchises will move into their areas, probably into their closed stand-alones. If they lose enough revenue, they will have an IPO and go public to survive; this means they'll be bought out by a big combine like PepsiCo and get back to serving food. Meanwhile, they aren't attractive as a new franchise from a business standpoint, and that's already hurt them. Would you put your life savings into one right now?

I'm sure these people will be proud when their children and great-grandchildren are learning about the history of gay rights in school and find out that they were related to bigots. Ridiculous!

I think that describes a gay pretty accurately, don't you think?

No, BG, but it sure describes *you*. There would vbe no bloody balltle at all if people would just accept their gay brothers and sisters and realize that they have the same HUMAN civil rights as everyone else. Get off you high horse.

My family will be eating at Chick-fil-A at least once a week now. I liked them before but now they're even more likely to be chosen, especially if we're on the road and can't decide where to go. But at least once a week from now on. Their restaurant is cleaner than everyone else's and their service is excellent. They always get my order right, too. Their employees sure seem happier than other places.

Good. Keep clogging your arteries with deep fried chicken scraps. Also, wait until faux news endorses another company (that will kick back 10% of the profits made on another "segregate gays day"). This week chicken, next week it will be taco bell, followed by KFC. Next faux will partner with major health insurers to make sure you get their triple bypass. You (and your family) are probably already fat,

Ummm in my location they are this tiny box with about 6 people stuffed into the space, with barely enough room to move around.

To me this is not about free speech as much as it is showing how the rich manage to get rich. They take money from the same people they bad mouth in the press and – use that same money to fund agendas to stand against these same people.

So they are good enough to GIVE him the $$ so he can live a rich lifestyle, yet not good enough to get into heaven or -not- have bad things said about them, by him in an interview. Seems kinda.. wrong.

Btw – kudos to his one day of setting a selling record, but it won't make up for the many like me – that will refuse to eat there ever again. Me, my friends, my children and I think it will be much easier on our wallet to not support him, then it will be for you all – to support him. See he has already proven he does not care who lines his wallet .. notice that? I did. Read what I said above if it's not clicking. That is my issue here.

My relationship with Chick-fil-a is based on a chicken sandwich. If I wanted advice, on any matter, I would not go to Chick-fil-a because that is where I go to get chicken sandwiches, not advice. If they stop selling chicken sandwiches I will likely stop going there.

It's sad that people are too ignorant to even care what this issue is REALLY about. It's not about the first amendment...who in their right mind wouldn't defend that? It's about CFA's support of anti-gay organizations and at least one hate group. I think a lot of people will regret supporting CFA when they actually take the time to look into the issue.

HOW is Chick-fil-A racist? All Dan Cathy said was he supports the biblical definition of marriage. That's all. Did he say he HATED anybody? NO. Did he say gays couldn't work at Chick-fil-A? NO. Did he say gays were not welcome to eat at his restaurants? NO. How can you translate what he said into "I HATE YOU?!?" And if you are just now learning that Chick-fil-A is owned by a Christian, you must live under a rock! Chick-fil-A is a PRIVATELY owned business and he can state his personal beliefs anytime he wants. At least he's not standing outside YOUR business dressed like a cow and waving the gay flag!

Since the owner of Chick-Fil-a disagrees with your belief he is full of hate? The only hate has come from those supporting gay marriage. They preach tolerance, as long as it agrees with thier views. Disagree with them and you are an intolerant hate-monger.I think most are now seeing where the "true hate" is coming from.

“For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.”
“For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.” (Romans 1:25-27, written testimony of Paul to church at Rome, A.D. 55)
