'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Good marketing, what could possibly get more christians to buy your product than to announce that god is going to judge us for wanting equality.

Hey, great news! We helped Chick-Fil-A set a new sales record. Ha, Ha, we should do this every week to see how many times we can do it, plus it's for a great cause and the food is terrific.

Those of you calling for the boycott of Chick-Fil-A should be ashamed of yourselves... You are hypocrites, your efforts are better spend on causes worth fighting for, not trying to force your beliefs down others throats. Many of you are the same people who got your foot in the door waving the banner of tolerance and now want to deny the same to your fellow man.
For whatever reason your bigotry and intolerance are tolerated, even praise, by the media and the masses who have been socially conditioned to view you as being in a perpetual state of victimization.

"not trying to force your beliefs down others throats."

Chick-Fil-A do that when they give money to causes that dictate to others how they should live based on their beliefs.

Quick question...if its only about free speech how would you handle this scenario? National chain states that it is a proud Islamic corporation and a supporter of Al Qaeda and its goals...not a financial supporter so they are violating laws, just supportive of their causes.....would you be running to shop there to show your support for their exercise of free speech when the backlash begins? Would you label those who boycott the chain and criticize them as people full of hate? Unless the answer is yes it would seem that your argument about this being a free speech issue only is somewhat bogus and just a cowardly mask for something else.

This is a bad sign for Oblamo. People are going to line up at the polls on Election Day, just like they did at Chick-fil-a yesterday, to vote that joker out.

If people would stop taking offense every time some idiot opens their mouth, they would not get this kind of publicity. You dislike the CEO so much you just helped his business. People need to IGNORE idiots more.

I don't even like being subjected to having hetero's making out in public places. Can't the CEO have his opinion? It's not like his restaurants are discriminating who they choose to hire or serve.

That's not how the left will succeed. In order for them to continue down there happy path to total tyranny all dissenting opinion must be stomped out. Otherwise the masses might wake up to the fact that they are hypocritical lemmings.

actually your wrong, they do discriminate against who they hire. If you aren't a christian or you are gay you will not be hired. My best friend got fired from there because the owner found out he isn't christian. They are now settling out of court because of it.

The only good thing about this, is that the bigots that showed up for appreciation day, will all have a heart attack soon and fall off the face of the earth. Keep eating there. Please.

Oh my goodness! Dan Cathy said something that I don't agree with. How dare he speak his mind if his thoughts do not resemble my own! He must pay for this! The whole company must pay for this! Why can't he be more accepting of others thoughts and feelings like I am? I am open minded, I accept every bodies perspectives unless they disagree with me. Why can't he do the same

OK, now that you have spoken your mind you have to pay for it too. Exhibit some tolerance for others and support the First Amendment which not only protects speech but religion too. All he said was he supports the traditional definition of marriage. He said nothing about denying service to anyone. Only 28% of all states allow it. That means 72% don't. In cased you haven';t noticed, majority rules.
