'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says
Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.
The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.
The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.
"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."
On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.
He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.
Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Why not? God gave us free will. Most people know what others believe to be the consequences. Should the government marry them? NO because that would just mean a mess for taxes. But if someone wants to live that way go ahead.

Last night's experience at Chick-fil-A renewed my faith in people. The crowds were huge but polite and cheery, and from almost every walk of life. The staff went all out to be accommodating and the food was good. Unfortunately they ran out of ice cream so we'll just have to pay them another visit (or more!) for a peach milkshake. We support America's values (free enterprise, freedom of speech and yes, traditional morals). We support Chick-fil-A.

I myself never cared for Chick Fil A.. Will I begin going there or making sure I don't go there now because of this? No... I could care less about this issue. Gay marriage is the last thing I think our country should be worried about or waging a buying/protesting war over. CMON people!! For one, God gave us all free will, so those that are gay already know those of you against it's position and can make their own decisions and interpretations for that matter. Do you really think calling someone a sinner and telling them they are wrong is going to change them?. Secondly, it doesn't affect hardly any of you out there that are fighting so hard for it just because you are a democrat... Who cares if your party supports it. Does that mean you have to go out and fly banners and raise the roof for it? NO!! Worry about what should concern you. If people's rights were truly being neglected here I would get all the arguing, but I don't think that is the case. There are much bigger issues that are getting a lot less coverage right now because of this. A bumper sticker issue is the central theme of this election all of the sudden. That is what is scary to me. Don't get caught up in the little issues. Worry about the issues that affect you. If you agree with Obama on his economic policies fine, if you agree with Romney fine.. vote that way. Don't vote because of gay marriage... Unless that is your number one issue becuase you are gay, then by all means go ahead!!

Personally I dont want to see ANYONE making out when I'm eating dinner so those that do will just have to get over me not LIKING it. The bible says many things about marriage...AND divorce....AND the woman's place in the marriage and in church but I dont see anyone protesting the fact that the govt allows anyone to divorce just because they dont like each other anymore or that there are women preachers. Alot of laws don't reflect the "biblical" definition of things yet we don't hear anything about those issues that make things "complicated' for the majority despite the "bibilical" perspective. The bible says ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and that no man or woman should sit in judgement of anyone else...that is reserved for God. This is a country of freedom..freedom to like AND dislike anything or anyone as long as that dislike doesnt infringe on the rights of others. Mr Cathy expressed his personal belief on the matter when asked. Tough if there are those that didn't like it...he has the right to believe anything he wants. He supports who he wants to with his OWN money...not the taxpayers so tough if you dont like it. I dont necessarily like alot of the things that companies support but that's not my business because its not my money. Freedom can be a two-edged sword and just because you don't like what someone else believes or says is part of the game....the gay community needs to learn this and realize that they are NEVER going to be able to FORCE ANYONE to like or accept them. That's life...get over it.
