'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

I think all the protests directed at Chick-Fil-A is causing huge contempt for Gays from Straights. To all gays that spouted off against Chick-Fil-A...... Thanks alot, now Gays are feeling the heat, with nobody to thank but CNN and big mouth Gays. Unbelievable.

This is just like the liberal organization CNN to suggest that people turned out to show their support for the chain's opposition to gay marriage. Most people (like me) showed up to support the company's right to have an opinion and to voice that opinion. Even if that opinion DARES to go against Hollywood and our obnoxious mainstream media.

I for one am sick an tired of the war on white christian values while at the same time we are being forced to pay for the social well fare for these snot nosed liberal girly men slackers and these baby making machines.,
aka liberated loose women with no morals we call single mothers.

Let anyone speak up for common sense or a moral standard and you will see the liberal media go after them as if they were Hitler himself.

I support Mr. Cathy 100%. He said nothing wrong, he spoke what the word of God says. He wasn't being prejudiced as some are trying to make it seem, good for you Mr. Cathy, people stand up and for anything that comes along but how many times do people with the power to influence stand up for the word of God without wavering. GOD BLESS YOU! Those people who choose not to allow other franchises to open, your misfortune because God will continue to bless Mr. Cathy with or without your support. God said be fruitful and multiply, please explain to me how two men and two women can do that the way God intended. He spoke the truth and the truth hurts, he never spoke against anyone one only his belief and he has every right.

God, I loved going to Chick Fil A yesterday. My ice cream was great. It was the politest protest ever. People weren't breaking store windows or leaving their feces everywhere. People let other people go first. They were kind. No one was bad mouthing gays and lesbians. People spoke coherently to the media. BEST PROTEST EVER!

Yup, after the tea party gatherings in DC the grounds were cleaner than they were before hand. Compare that to any Democrat rally, like when Obama became president, Democrats trashed the place, all Democrats leave their trash and much worse all over the place, it is because they are selfish elitist freaks who have a total disregard for the lives and well being of others.

Drive in red areas and blue areas, the difference is amazing. A Democrat with a car is a billion times more of a threat to someone being killed than a Conservative with a loaded gun. Democrats have never valued life, first it was the klan that they started and today is even worse with their great society. Just look at what they are doing to people of color in all the cities and districts controlled by Democrats completely for the last 40 years, it is clearly genocide and everyone who does and has voted Democrat has blood on their hands.

We have a basic right in the United States: to believe what we want to believe. I am a full supporter of gay marriage! But I am also a free supporter of a person to believe in what they want and express it. Our country is based on freedom. If we take away the right of one body to believe what they want then how can we justify our stance in support of gay marriage? Are we saying that gay marriage should be legalized because it is a basic right, but Chick-fil-A should be boycotted because their president enacted his basic right to believe what he wanted? We cannot, must not, encroach on the rights of any individual or business! If we do, then our struggles are pointless.

So now we're supposed to applaud people for standing up for what they believe in, even if its discrimination based on religion? Ok, so the whole "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" part of the Bill of Rights can just be scratched out. Don't believe in gay marriage because the bible says so? Fine. Go to a church that doesn't allow gay mariage. But don't dictate what I can or can't do based on your religion. We do not have an official religion in the states. I don't have to abide by your version of christianity.
