'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day' sets record, restaurant chain says

Chick-fil-A says it set a sales record on Wednesday, the day that supporters rallied around the fast-food chain amid a debate over its president's opposition to same-sex marriage.

The chain won't release sales numbers, but "we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had called on people to buy food at the chain on Wednesday, which he dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," after a backlash against the company and their president.

The controversy started after an interview with the fast-food restaurant chain's president and COO, Dan Cathy, appeared in The Baptist Press on July 16. He weighed in with his views on family.

"We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit," Cathy said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

On a Facebook page Huckabee created announcing the event, more than 620,000 people said they would participate.

He called for a response to a backlash against the restaurants and its president. Customers flocked to the restaurants on Wednesday, many showing their support for the chain and Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage.

Gay rights activists are planning to hold a "national same-sex kiss day at Chick-fil-A" on Friday.

Didn't the bible also say that these big, fat, morbidly obese, bigoted, inbred, ignorant, Southern hill billies also have to abstain from eating shellfish? Plus, how much are you willing to bet that most of them had se x before getting married or were born out of wedlock.

Southern bible belt red neck inbred tra sh are the most hypocritical people in the world.

This is America. Why does the gay rights establishment want to silence everyone who disagrees with their stance? What are they afraid of?

You just said it. Gay rights. They are protecting their rights. No different than the black race stance during the Civil Rights movement or women during Women's Suffrage. They just want their rights. But I a, sure people disagreed with those movements as well. How hard must it be to feel like you are defending your right to be equal in a society based on equality and freedom. You would yell pretty loud too if your rights were taken away.

I'll say it again. Tolerance is not acceptance. The vast majority of this country will tolerate the gay agenda as long as it doesn't affect them or their children negatively. That in no way means they accept this behavior as normal or morally correct. The media likes to make the world believe otherwise. But if you draw a line in the sand (ie. Chik fil a), you see where this nation stands. Just like every time any state has ever voted on a protect marriage law or ammendment. And we are not the gullible uneducated that you wish we were. The Chik fil a on Mayo blvd in Scottsdale, AZ, down the street from Mayo clinic, ran out of chicken and had to close 3hrs early.

Yeah, but gays would take tolerance...which the prigs won't accept. Whattaya think, that gay people are going o recruit kids? Are ya goofy? You're either gay or you aren't!! Unless they're doing the nasty on your lawn, you ahouldn't complain about gay people wanting to have the same rights as heteros...and I wouldn't want anyone doing the nasy on my lawn, gay or straight...

Oh, and just so you know, gay marriages are recognized and performed in 6 states and the District of Columbia...so perhaps you are as uneducated (at least on this issue) as we think you are.

I think the silent majority has spoken. And we will speak in the November elections. We are sick of liberals destroying our country. We are sick of Obama. We are sick of elitist liberal democrats telling us how to think and trying to control our lives. Today's democrats are the nazis of modern times.

Why are we scared to voice our opinions? Most people are afraid that they will offend the gay community. They make up less than 2% of the US population. Christians make up 75% + of the population. I am sick of this drag queen drama. I think I will go back to Chic Fil A for lunch today.

We have to be willing to put our money where our mouths are and start supporting exclusively those businesses that support our beliefs. If Barney Frank can sit in Congress and express his private belief at our expense, we can do the same in this country of free expression. Congratulations Chick-fil-A.

Using your bible to bully other is revolting. They had 1 day. Unless they have Chick-fil-a appreciation day EVERYDAY it simply won't last.

The problem with your post is this...they didn't "their" bible to bully anyone. They expressed their beliefs in regards to marriage. The did not take that belief and shove it down your throat. They didn't put the message in every piece of chicken. They didn't discriminate on who they serve or employ. Just because they don't believe as another that means bullied? How? Words in response to a question is bullying now?

It was only one day that people came out, these same people feel this way everyday they just don't bully other everyday the the Gay community. I am not against Gays just don't tell me about it, Any by the way I believe that most were out on the first admendment principle not the gays, I believe the gays must think way too much of themselves that feel that way

Why is everyone so upset with Chick Fil A when the president and the vice president BOTH shared the SAME view as Cathy not too long ago? No one was boycotting the president, right? Freedom of Speech protects the speech that is unpopular. If you don't share their views, that's fine and I support that. But if you think that the answer is silencing them than just remember this: Just because they silence your enemies today doesn't meant they won't silence you tomorrow.
