Islamists: Two stoned to death for committing adultery in Mali

Islamists in control of northern Mali said they forced a man and a woman into two holes and stoned them to death for committing adultery in the lawless region.

Witnesses watched quietly as Islamists executed the two by pelting them with rocks in the remote Aguelhok town, according to a local resident.

"I don't know how many rocks they threw or for how long it went on before they were both dead," said Haman Maiga, a resident of Aguelhok who witnessed the stoning. "No one dared to try and stop the Islamists."

The woman had two small children, a boy and a girl, according to Maiga.

A leader of a radical Islamic group in the region said Sharia law condemns relationships outside marriage

And now they have taken over Timbuktu, I think we need an intervention there. If we go in and just put them out now, (the rigid religious sharia law), we might garner some support there. Right now the mali people are or were a democratic society, if left too long, the Islam extremist group will become a stronghold and democracy will be lost due to their iron fist. It is just in the north now, the army of islam will grow, we need to nip it in the bud.

The merciless killing of a man and women for having relations outside of marriage would be unthinkable in here; or would it?

I have never tried it (cheating), but I would not judge others so harshly. He who has not sinned, throw the 1st stone. I think killing someone is a no-no.

Yes, have been there and been lashed. (ouch) But if the army is allowed to recruit and we do not step in the incident of terror rages on.

None yah, not for others to judge. He (the cheater) already lost his vestal virgins. It is like double jeopardy is it not?

Terror? Terror lays squarely in our very own land when our Government can hold you indefinately, even without charges being filed.

Not that I believe in mob rule or murder, but when you break local laws and customs you should know what the consequences are. Not long ago couples of different races were treated similarly in parts of the US. Some were killed others were physically run out of town.

In other news, a man caught stealing a loaf of bread has received his punishment: Islamists were quick to cut off his hand.

While I disagree with these kinds of punishments, laws, WHO am I to try and change their history, traditions, beleifs, and laws? These people have lived this way for centuries! Until THEY make changes, stay out of it! The other side of this is when "do gooders" enter their country and try to make them change, mess up, and get put on trial for breaking their laws!

    Reprehensible.
They are but a small faction now; it is NOT the local custom; that is the point!
It shall be if their will continues unabated.

Since religion is the cornerstone of ignorance what else should be expected.

Maybe they just shoulda said don't do that or something. But if the 2 were both grown ups and wanted to do that, seems like it should only be their business.

We should tolerate the religious customs of other people as we do our own. To do otherwise would be less than Chick-Fil-A. (badda boom) :)

We don't tolerate intolerance. Death penalty for adultery is an inherently intolerant stance. Islamists themselves should be killed for this transgression.

Well, it's not like they are christianists burning witchy women at the stake and teaching kids they might burn in hellfire forever.
We really do need to tolerate others cultures as we do our own.
