July average tops U.S. temperature record, NOAA says

The July heat wave that wilted crops, shriveled rivers and fueled wildfires officially went into the books Wednesday as the hottest single month on record for the continental United States.

The average temperature across the Lower 48 was 77.6 degrees Fahrenheit, 3.3 degrees above the 20th-century average, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration reported. That edged out the previous high mark, set in 1936, by two-tenths of a degree, NOAA said.

U.S. forecasters started keeping records in 1895. The seven months of 2012 to date are the warmest of any year on record and were drier than average as well, NOAA said.

Wrong. They worship money. Every decision is guided by "What will put more money in MY pocket." Not caring much about anyone else.

      Zack:

      Summary:
Right wing Republicans worship the god of Profit.
They also allow no room for bad luck.
If you find yourself "in need", it's ALWAYS your fault.
So in their mind, If you need help, you should just cease to exist and stop using the productive peoples air.

Does anyone know of estimates for the average lower-48 temperature during the 1800's?

I guess if the deniers can make fun of the global warming / man-made climate change claims, than we can make fun of the wildfires in Colorado, Texas, midwest drought and crop loss, and those impacted by severe storms and tornadoes.

But we won't, because we're not arrogant fools like the deniers..

If you guys put as much effort in solutions as you do in trying to figure out why there isn't really a problem humanity would be much better off.

It's time to start taking care of our planet–either that, or start planning to move to Mars.

Don't worry – God will save us!!!!! Remember when he stopped that tsunami? Oh right, he didn't. Remember when he put out that volcano? Oh, right, he didn't. Well then you remember when he stopped that drought and pestilence??? Errr, dammit, you're right he didn't!

I don't know if you watched the Mars Rover landing or not but Mars looked much worse than Earth.

Doesn't matter what anyone thinks about global warming. The ball is already rolling and may already be too late to stop. I fear my children's children are the ones to really suffer..... So I guess we can blame the Democrats for running up the deficit and the Republicans for killing the planet......

We have to deal with the Right Wing denial here on climate change – just like the gun control issue. I guess if all the polar ice melts we can build an ark lilke Noah did.

ok the earth goes through natural cycles of change. the earth rotates on its y-axis resulting in day and night. there is a slight wobble on the axis as well. its not as drastically changing as day and night nor is it as frequent. in addition the elliptical orbit of the earth also changes slightly. resulting in a hotter climate over time. and it will continue also. dont take my word for it, look it up on any credible astrophysics site or ask a legitimate graduate in a category of astronomy.

Congrats, you've found your once-in-a-centruy year.

Here's the thing: whether you believe in global warming or not, or believe its man-made or not, 117 years of record keeping does not even come remotely close to being enough to gain particularly valuable insights on.

It is amusing watching the panic. It is .2 degrees hotter than the previous record set 76 years ago for pete's sake. 0.2 degrees. Chill OUT. pun intended. If it were MAN – made global warming, why have we not seen hotter July's 2 years ago, 5 years ago 15 years ago? A gradual increase. Instead we have a mere 0.2 increase from the previous 1936 record. Now, if next July is lower than the 1936 record, does this invalidate the goofballs on here who are freaking out? Furthermore, if you believe in MAN-made global warming, why dont you goofs give up your cars and stop surfing the net. The internet uses ENERGY as well. Idiots.

    Big business idolization?

For one, they hate science. I mean real science, not the fake stuff they sell. And two, they think it's a big "liberal" plan to ruin their lives. No concept at all that 7 billion humans can alter the world as we have known it.
