July average tops U.S. temperature record, NOAA says

The July heat wave that wilted crops, shriveled rivers and fueled wildfires officially went into the books Wednesday as the hottest single month on record for the continental United States.

The average temperature across the Lower 48 was 77.6 degrees Fahrenheit, 3.3 degrees above the 20th-century average, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration reported. That edged out the previous high mark, set in 1936, by two-tenths of a degree, NOAA said.

U.S. forecasters started keeping records in 1895. The seven months of 2012 to date are the warmest of any year on record and were drier than average as well, NOAA said.

Small minds confuse weather extremes with climate change.
For over 100 yrs., citizens from around the world have been recording EXACTLY how long it takes water to evaporate. (pan-evap rate) Mankinds pollution is shade over water, and has made for violent weather extremes, NOT global climate change.
Even if we were to END plluting this eath AND remove what pollution we have made from our atmosphere, the earth would continue to gradually warm itself into a global paradise w/o violent weather.

Right wingers think big energy companies are telling them the truth. That is very pathetic.

According to Big Oil, Big Coal, and their s h i l l s like Inhofe there is nothing to see here.
98% of climatologists disagree with them.

NOAA says July is the hottest month on record.

If Global Warming isn't real, then that Al Gore is really pushing this hoax to the limit!!!

Wake up people...this thin strip of atmosphere surrounding the earth is all that's responsible for our existance. This is the first time in history that we are stuck on an antiquated technology because the oil and gas industry is too rich and powerful and greedy to allow any new technology to replace it. Sad and pathetic!

For thinking people, yes. We keep hoping that the more proof is shoved in their faces, all the baggers, birthers, and global warming deniers will someday acknowledge the truth. Highly doubtful, but one can hope.

Good point! I drive my '99 Ram 4X4 to work every day and intentionally park next to the residen vegan that drives a Prius...and remind her daily of my 10mpg average...but I can afford it so no big deal! :)

A challenge to those who defiantly (foolishly) state that global climate destabilization is not real: if you really think there is nothing to worry about, put your money where your mouth is and move to a location that is less than 25 feet sea level. A warning, however, before you take this challenge–I will NOT let you sleep on my floor once the flood waters come (and they will come).

      Heeeey Kool Aid

A lot of of people already live at less than those levels. Maybe in another 100 years or so when you and me and everyone else is dead and gone they'll have beach front property.
Quit drinking so much of yourself.

It's time to start ignoring all the ignorant "skeptics" about the matter of warming and people that do have some common sense can move on and look for ways to help. The blow hards are in most cases are nothing but lobbiest for the energy industry and sell themselves out. This is too serious to play politics with. Politics these days is a joke.

July 2012 is 0.2 hotter than July 1936! WOW. So July 2011 was cooler than 1936. Why would that be if this is due to man-made global warming. Why not a gradual increase since 1936 instead of just one hotter than average July in the last 100 years. .

It'll be okay, people. Just keep on breeding. Keep making more little carbon footprints with corresponding resource and energy requirements. Because birth is a RIGHT. Reproduction is a RIGHT. Just ask any Democrat.

Only liberal, left-wing socialist communists think climate change is real. Oh, and 98% of the scientific community. Why listen to scientists when you can listen to climate change experts like Sarah Palin? I'm sure she must have read a magazine or a newspaper at some point in her life.

Global warming is a farce? I guess mountains of data and record everything is a farce too. Surely it's oil companies telling us the truth. They have nothing to lose (oh, except billions and billions in profits.) It's unbelievable how well people can bury their heads in the sand.
