Severed head, foot found along Ontario river

Police are combing an Ontario river on Friday after a severed head and foot were found in and near the waterway this week.

“We have a foot and a head at this point. We’ll be looking for the entire victim,” acting Inspector Randy Cowan of the Peel Regional Police told reporters Thursday in a news conference near the Credit River in Mississauga.

Cowan said the head was that of a woman and the foot had painted toenails, leading authorities to suspect it was also from a woman. However, tests would be needed to conclude they were from the same victim, he said. The foot was found Wednesday and the head on Thursday.

“Common sense tells us this is most likely related,” he said.

A cause of death had not been determined, Cowan said.

“Without a cause of death we can't call it homicide, but certainly foul play — there's definitely something amiss," Cowan told reporters.

The inspector said the body parts were likely from an adult.

“The size of the remains would indicate it is not a child,” he said. Decomposition meant the race of the remains could not immediately be determined, he said.

The remains were found about a kilometer apart along the river, which runs near Hewick Meadows Park in the city of 700,000 west of Toronto not far from Lake Ontario. Cowan said they had likely been in the river for a short time, weeks on the high end.

Police were checking into missing persons cases from the immediate area and others upriver for leads into the case, Cowan said.

The area around where the body parts were found is a quiet residential one, according to a report from CNN affiliate CBC.

The Mississauga case is the second involving body parts to make big headlines in Canada this year.

In May, a human foot was mailed to the headquarters of the ruling Conservative Party in Ottawa. Remains, but not an entire body, were also found by a janitor behind a Montreal apartment building.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, a 29-year-old porn actor, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in that case in June. He pleaded not guilty.

Body parts linked to the Magnotta case were also mailed to schools in British Columbia, according to authorities.

    Another bit of info:

    Her friend went missing on July 3, 2011;
Exactly one year and one month (13 months)
ago to the day. She disappeared from a
Nightclub, in Toronto and was found along a
country road. Police are staying tight lipped
    about that case...

They can't rule out the possibility that someone might have acquired a corpse and dismembered it, so no, they can't call it a homicide, but the fact that there are body parts floating around is why they can say that it's obviously foul play.

I hope they can find all of the body parts and put this woman back together. I wish her a speedy recovery...

@Steve, LMAO. @Jackie, maybe a bear ate most of him. Maybe two consenting adults voluntarily dismembered one. Corpus delecti, no body, no crime. When you have but a fraction of the body, there it gets tricky. Alas, fear not, the Ontario police found the p0rn star cannibal killer Luka Magnotta in no time ... oh that's right, even though he posted pictures of himself defiling his victim's corpse, the cops didn't know anything was amiss until politician's started receiving body parts in the mail. Those long cold winter's can really test the limits of man's sanity.

@NickD, there is no God, there's just us humans partaking in pragmatic hedonism – if it feels good, so it – and behold the consequences! Pray if it makes you feel better. You may be next.

Nothing funny about this. In my life I have narrowly escaped being murdered a couple of times; because of this, I trust nobody.

I agrree with NM the crime on the streets in the US imostly gangs and an overwhelming majority are
Mexican MS 13 they should all be rounded up put on heavily guarded buses and sent deep into Mexico
or South america wherever their from. Being an illegal gang member should be cause for immediate
deportation!! Mexican drug cartels use the chop off head methods as execution. Most average murderers
dont use this level of sedistical maniacal methedology.
Canada has also been seeing an increase in these types of murders since allowing millions of immigrants
from those parts of world where this type of murder is common. Like the middle east for example.

The illness displayed in these murders are not regional. We, the U.S., have had plenty of cases, solved and unsolved, where the victims are dismembered and scattered, stuffed in luggage, etc.

Canada's problems are not so different from our own...

Its being reported that the body parts, bones, discovered in East Toronto (Scarborough) was a leg. It was located near a bridge overpassing a creek.

Sick... to report there were remains found and it turns out to be such a small piece of the puzzle.
    :(

Have they found any of her clothing?

Yeah a couple of body parts were found in Scarborough which is just east of Toronto. Mississauga is west of Toronto and the body parts found in the Credit River is About a five minute drive from my house. So many journalists with their satelite trucks and video cameras just hanging out on Eglinton Avenue Credit River bridge for a few days now. Driven by the scene a few times. A few years back, the body of a nine year old girl was discovered and her killer is doing a life sentence. I have heard in Michigan that body parts were found recently as well. I just hope the monster that did this is caught and punished to the max that our crummy laws allow.

Does anyone besides me think it's weird they're transporting the severed body parts in paper bags from the Dollar Tree? Everyone knows WalMart plastic is way better.

That %^$# killed an attractive woman? Whoa, we cannot stand for that! That is a precious rare commodity. That should be a sentencing criteria: reduced sentence for removing an ugly woman, capital offense for depriving the world of a beauty.

Under the Canadian healthcare system, people may have to wait for months or even years to get new feet and a new head.
