Protesters climb U.S. Embassy walls in Cairo

[Updated at 5:38 p.m. ET] Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tore down the American flag, apparently in protest of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

A volley of warning shots were fired as a large crowd gathered around the compound, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene, though it is not clear who fired the shots.

Egyptian police and army personnel have since formed defensive lines around the facility in an effort to prevent the demonstrators from advancing farther, but not before the protesters affixed their standard atop the embassy.

The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger," an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.

It was unclear which film upset the protesters.

Yep, it makes me wonder that a religion that preaches peace and love could incite such peaceful and loving demonstrations...

Maybe as Americans we should rush every Muslim nation's embassy wherever we live to show our disgust for flag burning, uncle sam depicting, and of course the fact they call us infidels for being predominately Christian/Catholic/Protestant.

This goes to show you once again how badly they have it and how bad we truly are... the more I see crap like this the more I feel less and less for the ones here being so "afraid" to profess their religious beliefs...

Where is the Egyptian govt stand in all this??

I wonder if they used any special gear climbing the embassy wall, and was the flagpole shimmyed.

It's all part of Obama's grand plan to weaken America in the world. By letting Egypt fall to the primitives, we AND Isreal took a significant hit, with almost no direct effort from the administration. They're awfully quiet publicly, after touting the freedom and happiness of the "Arab Spring", but inside they're cheering. Even when he falls in two months, this damage is done, and can't be fixed easily or soon.

Yes, of course Obama is a very devout muslim. Like all devout muslims, he supports gay marriage and a woman's right to choose and attended Rev. Wright's Christian church and worked with Christian community organizations.

Very good points, but it seems as if the folks we elected to make the kinds of decisions that would save us BILLIONS of dollars that could be used to prevent our once great Country from becoming a weak pathetic Godless third world country appears to be working for others to our hurt and demise. I remember the President along with Hillary Clinton speaking highly of the ARAB SPRING!!! Makes anyone with some measure of thinking wonder about a lot of things that seems to be, but at the end of the day might be something many will not have suspect.

The people of the Middle East and North Africa are not capable of living with themselves, let alone with other nations. They have always had to be restrained (controlled) by either an outside government or a Strongman. A very senior British officer who spent years in Egypt and Palestine said it best. These people can only be treated one way. They are either at your feet or at your throat. Until a strong leader resumes control in Egypt the insane are in charge of the asylum, and because they can not even get along with each other they will never have a viable democratic form of government.

Sure buddy...Iran is much better off under the Ayatollahs then they were under the Shah. Oh... And those folks in Egypt will be much better off , especially women, under the Muslim Brotherhood...who also have their sights set on Libya and Syria should Assad fall. I agree that the dudes you listed were slime balls but when it comes to the Middle East, it might be better to leave the slime ball Autocrats alone rather tthan dealing with what the alternative might turn out to be.
