[Updated at 1:51 p.m. ET] No explosives were found at two U.S. universities that had ordered evacuations after they received bomb threats Friday morning, officials said.
The evacuations happened at the University of Texas at Austin and North Dakota State University. People were allowed back into the University of Texas buildings at noon CT Friday, though Friday's classes have been canceled, the school said on its website.
Police and federal authorities, including a bomb squad, investigated the Texas threats. A University of Texas police spokesman told CNN that "it was a general bomb threat on campus." A university spokeswoman told CNN affiliate KXAN that a male claiming to be with al Qaeda called the university and said that bombs were placed all over campus, and that they would go off at about 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET).

About 51,000 students attend the flagship university, which is located in central Texas. University spokeswoman Rhonda Weldon said that at any time up to 70,000 people could be on campus.
North Dakota State University told its students and employees to leave campus entirely by 10:15 a.m. CT, according to its website. A NDSU official later said that the campus had been swept, and classes would resume at 2 p.m. CT.

NDSU also has a immdiate evacuation as well, Bomb threat as well.
As a student at Pitt (we had 150+ bomb threats last Spring) these fake bomb threats are so ridiculous, our perp turned out to be some guy in Ireland.
Nothing is more infuriating to the general student body than these threats, as someone who was forced awake in the middle of the night on multiple occasions by fake bomb threats, I totally emphasize with the students there. The person behind it needs to go behind bars for a long time.

PLUS, it's pouring rain in Austin right now so to evacuate into the streets is miserable for my fellow students. Lucky for me, I was still at home when the alert came in.

Raining in Austin right now, Friday morning before an away football game – unlikely this is a real threat, but UT's had too many incidents in the past (Whitman, anyone?) and has to take this seriously.
Plus side – if it is a hoax, there will be a LOT of angry dorm residents looking for the culprit after walking (hungover) in the rain to their evacuation sites.

See, if you don't actually have any bombs and you still want to make a fuss, just call in a bomb threat. Someone at my high school used to do it all the time until they caught him and cut off his nuts. Figuratively speaking, I think.

Ridiculous they don't give any more detail in a notice to evacuate the campus and get as far away as possible. I know I wouldn't have followed it if I was there. I'd just assume it was a bomb threat and the campus was overreacting.

I guess I must be a bit to violent wanting to protect our country against terrorists. I would warn to not get complacent, these are meerly tests the real deal will come later. I just hope the results are not severe, but I am sure they will be. We have gotten to arragent thinking we could never get attacked like other countries over seas have. Just be careful and dont think it is only a test if you are somewhere and hear a warning like that.
