Chicago schools go to court to end strike

Chicago school officials sought a court order to end the teacher strike that entered its sixth school day on Monday.

The move comes after teachers union representatives decided Sunday not to end a week-long walkout - despite a tentative contract deal reached by union leaders and school officials.

The move left Mayor Rahm Emanuel vowing to go to court to force teachers back to work, calling Sunday's actions by the union "a delay of choice that is wrong for our children."

Emanuel contended Sunday that the strike is illegal because "it is over issues that are deemed by state law to be nonstrikable, and it endangers the health and safety of our children."

Emanuel is right, don't hold these kids education hostage.Go back to teaching and let your appointed officials union wise and Chicagos education board hash it out, they do get paid for that you know, you don't need any more negetive press about teachers and unions to start more venomous rants from the right.Romney if president wants unions out and gives authority to principles to hire and fire anyone,we definitly don't need or want that,a fascist school setting to contend with do we!!So please teachers listen to your mayor as well as your heart,go back to work teaching kids, its hard enough with jackels like Romney starting political fires without innocents like you adding to it.You'll lose if it gets nasty and unions as well as yourselves usually paid the brunt of all these battles because you're not working, right! You can't afford to permanently lose these jobs can ya so please go back I implore you!!

This is more because of Obama's failure than it is Romney's campaign. That's hilarious, Obama went from blaming his predescessor to blaming someone's campaign. When is Obama goimg to take responsibility for his failure?

Hamsta, this strike has nothing to do with either the president,Romney and I'm more inclined to side with the president than a Mormon moron that believes in taking away all rights from teachers ,it'll start there in Chicago like in Wisconsin and won't stop..Go back and see how public sector strikes go,like the garbage crews in NY years ago,you want that piled up in front of your house in 90 degree heat,I don't think so.They eventually got their way but were out for weeks, lost wages, ticked off residents and commissioners who really don't care because most of them don't live where the strikes are or have private pickup..Teachers in other countries are treated royally, respected because they take pride and they're paid extremely well ,some higher than doctors in doing their jobs ,check out other countries teachers salaries you'd be surprised...So give teachers a break, your kids education and future is in their hands, they deserve respect which in many cases they don't!!

Take this from a self educated high school dropout: It's not even close to the teacher's fault if your kid is a failure in school. The blame truly belongs with either the parent or the student. In my case it's my own fault. My father met with the teachers on a regular basis and neber argued with the teacher, especially in my presence. Sure I had a few bad teachers but how far can that excuse go. It is time that the finger of blame is pointed where it belongs, at that unruly parent who disrespects the teachers in their child's presence in turn teaching their children to be rebellious snobs. On the subject of whether a teacher's strike is a wise move at this time, I will say that they should feel lucky to even have a job at this time.
