[Posted at 6:12 a.m. ET] A pair of Israeli airstrikes early Monday hit Palestinian militants in northern Gaza, killing at least two and wounding  four others – two of them critically, Palestinian faction sources said.
The strikes followed a mortar attack on an Israeli border patrol near the Nir Am kibbutz, according to a statement from Israel Defense Forces.
The IDF blames Hamas for all terrorist activity coming out of Gaza and has long targeted militants who fire mortars and rockets into Israel.
