LSU's 'Honey Badger' Mathieu arrested on drug charge

Tyrann "Honey Badger" Mathieu - a Heisman Trophy finalist last year at Louisiana State University, only to be suspended from the football team months later - was arrested Thursday on a drug charge, Baton Rouge police said.

Police initially responded to an apartment complex in the Louisiana city after getting a complaint about a person trying to force his way in through a security gate, the Baton Rouge Police Department announced in a news release.

Officers eventually tracked the man to one apartment unit and knocked, with Mathieu opening the door and consenting to a request to search the apartment, police said.

Police found three other men - one of them allegedly the man who  tried to force his way past the gate– as well as a marijuana grinder, digital scale and 10 bags of "high-grade marijuana."

Along with another young man, Mathieu was charged with simple possession of marijuana. The two others face charges of 2nd offense simple possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute the drug, according to police.

"All four men are being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison," police said.

As a Heisman finalist, Mathieu was considered one of college football's five best players last year. But he was dismissed in August from the Tigers by head coach Les Miles, who didn't specify the alleged transgressions but did say, "We have a standard that our players are held to. And when that standard is not met, there are consequences."

It's too bad that they let folks like you vote. Go pray to your invisible friend, then vote us into the ground with a vote for Mittens.

At the end of the day, you can whine all day about the legalization of pot. If something is deemed illegal, don't do it. Especially if you have a free education and fast-track to the NFL on the line. It just says a lot about his decision-making skills and frankly, his intelligence. Fight the good fight if you must, but you're not winning anybody over by staying high in the meantime. Don't blame the system for enforcing the laws in place–the cops didn't make the rules but they are obligated to enforce them. Take it up with your state rep.

Another waste of taxpayer dollars, although Louisiana probably has some nice draconian drug laws, but liquor, that kills thousands a year, is OK.

What happend to seperation of church and state? I don't want to live in a country that bases their decision making on the bible. Get your Jesus fix from church not from the president.

Looks like Honey "Ciggaweed" Badger done made a Hone Boo Boo! Must have been too high to refuse the search of the apartment. I can't think of anyone in their right mind just inviting the police in with 10 bags of weed sitting on the table.

    Way to go sparky!

This kid was one the best at the safety position that I've seen in college ball in a long time. He's let millions of dollars just slip through his hands because he wants to get high....what an idiot.
