LSU's 'Honey Badger' Mathieu arrested on drug charge

Tyrann "Honey Badger" Mathieu - a Heisman Trophy finalist last year at Louisiana State University, only to be suspended from the football team months later - was arrested Thursday on a drug charge, Baton Rouge police said.

Police initially responded to an apartment complex in the Louisiana city after getting a complaint about a person trying to force his way in through a security gate, the Baton Rouge Police Department announced in a news release.

Officers eventually tracked the man to one apartment unit and knocked, with Mathieu opening the door and consenting to a request to search the apartment, police said.

Police found three other men - one of them allegedly the man who  tried to force his way past the gate– as well as a marijuana grinder, digital scale and 10 bags of "high-grade marijuana."

Along with another young man, Mathieu was charged with simple possession of marijuana. The two others face charges of 2nd offense simple possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute the drug, according to police.

"All four men are being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison," police said.

As a Heisman finalist, Mathieu was considered one of college football's five best players last year. But he was dismissed in August from the Tigers by head coach Les Miles, who didn't specify the alleged transgressions but did say, "We have a standard that our players are held to. And when that standard is not met, there are consequences."

I wonder why so many young people; especially athletes who have the world at their fingertips do such stupid things to throw it all away? He really wasn't mature enough to handle life living on his own. Should have lived with a parent or guardian while at the university – with a curfew at that. He may have eventually matured, even if it took until he turned 30.

Yeah, he'll probably blame it on the Sports Illustrated Cover curse. I have no idea why he even went back to LSU if he wasn't clean. Now he's done forever.

Mr. Obamananananana..... you will pay heavy, very heavy for your deep disrespect of the Lord almighty. Your problem is your intellect is larger than your spirit. If you reverse them you will see that God is and will always be great.

Actually Willie I have to disagree with you a little, he is showing he has neither intelligence nor spirit.

It is funny how you believe in a little man up in the sky. Since you believe in God, you must also believe in a little man under the ground that is in a world of fire and brimstone. To bad science has proven that there is no little man in the sky or a world of fire and brimstone under the ground.

Ouch Ryan. You got a lot of pain seeping from those words. It does you no justice as person to mock someone else's belief. It only makes you look bad.

Chuck your reply is not very christ like. I can tell you that Mormons are some of the best people around, sure their standards might be a little higher then yours, as they do not go around spewing so much hate, they attempt to follow and act like Christ which more then I can say for your tolling comment.

According to the news, they also picked up Jordan Jefferson. It takes an unbelievable level of stupidity to trade in a potential career in the NFL for a couple of ounces of marijuana.
