LSU's 'Honey Badger' Mathieu arrested on drug charge

Tyrann "Honey Badger" Mathieu - a Heisman Trophy finalist last year at Louisiana State University, only to be suspended from the football team months later - was arrested Thursday on a drug charge, Baton Rouge police said.

Police initially responded to an apartment complex in the Louisiana city after getting a complaint about a person trying to force his way in through a security gate, the Baton Rouge Police Department announced in a news release.

Officers eventually tracked the man to one apartment unit and knocked, with Mathieu opening the door and consenting to a request to search the apartment, police said.

Police found three other men - one of them allegedly the man who  tried to force his way past the gate– as well as a marijuana grinder, digital scale and 10 bags of "high-grade marijuana."

Along with another young man, Mathieu was charged with simple possession of marijuana. The two others face charges of 2nd offense simple possession of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute the drug, according to police.

"All four men are being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison," police said.

As a Heisman finalist, Mathieu was considered one of college football's five best players last year. But he was dismissed in August from the Tigers by head coach Les Miles, who didn't specify the alleged transgressions but did say, "We have a standard that our players are held to. And when that standard is not met, there are consequences."

You are the main reason humans have not continued to evolve. Hopefully, you will learn how to think before we have to lock you up.

"Your problem is your intellect is larger than your spirit. If you reverse them you will see that God is and will always be great."

Yes, if you become stupid and accept anything, you will believe god is great.

    A. A socially maladjusted juvenile who posts crap like this because they like to stir up trouble and see people freak out

–or– (more likely based on the username)

    B. Someone who is on the opposite side of the issue (politics in this case) who wants to make the other side look bad

Omg, he had marijuana!?!! Didn't he know he can overdose that it could make him mean....ummm......well, doesnt he know it might cause him to eat a whole bag of Oreos?!? Oh the humanity!!!! lock him away...its the only way we can feel safe. What a pathetic life it must be to blindly follow every rule without every asking why. I know, the only response they have is it's still illegal. Not for long 🙂

Basically, I agree with you on the marijuana issue: this plant substance will probably be completely legalized in 10-20 years. But this kid is an immature, undisciplined and reckless mess. He has been warned, and sanctioned, and suspended, and expelled - and he still does anything with controlled substances????? Maybe he's brain damaged from too much football. Or maybe he's just a moron. Because he doesn't seem to "get" what he has to do to come back and make a career out of his talents, which could make him ridiculously wealthy. One thing for sure is that a two week rehab isn't going to save this dude: he needs a live-in guard, and new friends for sure.

shrug, I have no real issue with pot. I don't use it myself but don't really see any reason for others not to. As for whether it has negative side effects, it can and does, much like other legal substances. It does impair judgement and slow reaction times so obviously it should be regulated the same as alcohol. It is practically impossible to fatally OD (most OD results from ingestion rather than smoking), so I could see a reasoning behind legalization.

But that has very little to do with what the current laws and rules state. You cannot pick and choose which rules or laws you feel like following, without fully accepting the negative consequences if they occur. If you make a conscious decision to break the law and are caught doing it, you go to jail. If you are part of an organization that says you cannot do certain things and remain part of that don't get to be part of that group. I accept people want it legalized, hell I support the effort in many ways. But until it is legal...if you break the law, there are consequences that you can't blame on anyone but yourself.

Ryan also needs to learn the correct usage of "to" and "too". The incorrect usage makes you appear to be uneducated, thereby rendering your thoughts on heaven and hell specious at best.
