Police: Nanny accused in kids' deaths stabbed self when mom arrived

A New York nanny accused of fatally stabbing two children under her care Thursday began stabbing herself when the children's mother entered the room she was in not before New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Friday.

Kelly's revised statement relates to Thursday's slayings of Lucia Krim, 6, and Leo Krim, 2, both children of Marina Krim and CNBC Digital Senior Vice President Kevin Krim, in the family's luxury Upper West Side apartment. Police say they believe nanny Yoselyn Ortega, 50, killed the children before injuring herself.

Earlier, Kelly told reporters that investigators believed Ortega was on a bathroom floor with self-inflicted wounds when the children's mother entered the room and found the kids' bodies in a bathtub. Please read this story for more.

Does anybody have one good idea as to WHY someone would kill two kids entrusted in thier care, then start stabbing themselves because they got "s p o o k e d" when the childrens mother come through the door.
I have been thinking about moving to New York City, but my wife isn't to keen about the idea. But here again is a good reason, that probably would be a grave mistake.

Unfortunately this psychotic behavior is not limited to N.Y, we hear of brutal murders. mass killings, repulsive child abuse etc from other places on this soil now.
I lived in Manhattan for a few years back in the 90s, got various advisories from N.Yorkers but had a jolly good time.

How sad. Unfortunately this is not first or last time that children are killed or hurt by nanny. It is surprising how this profession and nanny business lacks regulation, at least in Massachusetts. Recently, we hired Au Pair using Cultural Care agency to help us finding infant trained nanny. We end up getting 24 year old girl with absolutely no experience, who was severely depressed, constantly crying, but refusing to get medical help. I contacted Cultural Care agency multiple times asking for help, with response that I am overly sensitive due to pregnancy. One day she disappeared, we filed police report, agency never responded. Later, I found out that Cultural care is the same agency that hired nanny who killed infant in Boston ten years ago, they just changed name....how sad...how dangerous.
