Superstorm Sandy left wreckage in its wake "beyond anything I thought I'd ever see," New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said at a news conference today.
"The level of devastation at the Jersey Shore is unthinkable," he said.
The state is "nowhere near" allowing many residents to return to that area, Christie said.
He plans to fly out today to visit one of the worst-hit areas, but there is nowhere for him to land at the barrier islands because of all the damage.
Also, every rail line in the state has faced major damage, he said.
Christie said he's confident that President Barack Obama and the federal government will work with New Jersey and that the state will rebuild.
cnn im actully disappointed because i need facts and all you give me is stuff i dont need to know. get to the facts. date, time, what happened, where did it affect....... stuff like that
Now that the east coast gets hit by a storm that barely classifies as a hurricane they call it a superstorm. By Louisiana's standards this storm is just a minor inconvenience, just take a look around as a result of a wimpy storm burns these images in your mind and realize that the damage you see is just the normal everyday life for people of Louisiana and remember how much hatred you east yankees directed at us when we had much more than to deal with than this minor inconvenience.
Since this storm is just a "minor inconvenience", conversely, should the rest of the United States view Katrina, et al, as a "major inconvenience"?
They didn't, and they won't.
Those people that you are decrying, those few mean-spirited people who said the horrendous things about NO and LA, are just that: mean spirited people.
The majority of the United States donated time, money, labor, supplies, etc. to help rebuild after Katrina, and although it may make you feel better to rant about what you perceive at the injustices done during Katrina, what it really looks like if a gleeful expression of "ha ha! Revenge" on your part, Hamsta...which, in actuality, makes you look exactly like one of those Yankees you complain about.
I KNOW you don't want to come off as shallow and petty as they did, do you?
@Hamsta- it should not be my storm is bigger than yours. They were slammed too. We all bleed, we are all human, we are all american.
Might it be known, since ur obvious ignorance is astounding..,new jersey is the most populated state per square mile. New Jersey is also extremely flat and also not as near prone to hurricanes as the south, I don't usually post but I can only take so much stupidity.
To say this storm did unthinkable damage is a rediculous perspective. I have been thinking for years that people building on the coast are gambling with mother nature. Nobody deserves to have there homes lost due to a storm but come on. If you build an amusement park in the ocean, eventually the ocean will swollow your amusement park. what Christie should do is think more and talk less. Maybe he should push for allowing smoking pot in his state and people will open there minds and think about the unthinkable;)! Lets go Sooners finish strong!
Hmmm for a blog site that claims not to pre-screen posts, this is my fourth attempt to post and smile guys–you are on candid camera.........................source code and all Texas hackers ahem................(smiling at your impending doom)
I just love illegal "censorship" from within the Republican ranks. LOL I wonder how Meg Whitman is doing at HP these days? Hmmm???? Gosh I hope she's helping her billionaire puppetteers like she did at eBay–ever wonder how only the big names get found in searches on eBay–the Power Sellers own eBay. What a shame. Hi Meg.
I think it's sad that we live in a news bubble of sound bits instead of journalistic integrity. The Internet belongs to we, the people not the gangs called "Corporations". I think we need to re-affirm that Free Speech is not for Homeland Security and its paranoid schizzos to difine. Sorry CNN but if you are gonna be on the Net, you need to stop censorship favors for the galacticly corrupt CIA and NSA who buy state run illegal spying.
Please leave CNN alone. They are a ok.
USUALLY adults are going to plan B when plan A doesnt work!
Mmmmmm we have beef ro mein on Chinee Buffett at runch today. You eat. It berry berry good. Onry seven dorrah.
Cnn has not posted my prior THREE comments. the basic context was I am NOT paying MY TAX MONEY TO RESTORE, REBUILD & ENRICH coastal homeowners that own(ed) million dollar homes overlooking the ocean! That is WHAT INSURANCE YOU BUY IS FOR PEOPLE! You want to live in those fancy pretty homes with breathtaking views – then YOU replace your house! WE – THOSE WHO DO NOT BENEFIT FROM YOUR BEACHFRONT PARTY PALACE are NOT PAYING TO REPLACE & ENRICH YOU! While that is a fact, so is that you idiots that did NOT evacuate are now causing a mess screaming for HELP! Drive your BMW thru the water, stall out, call 911 – HELP!! so dumb! ..... Let's see if CNN allows my post THIS time... I never knew you censored so sickeningly. I'll paste this about you on every 'Net board I can find.
I agree I dont think the burden of rebuilding should be on taxpayers!
I'm sorry but - has CNN been bought by a British company and is it writing in British English now? AMERICAN English uses double quotations marks. I am suddenly seeing single quotation marks all over the news media. WRONG. We use single quotations marks to designate something VERY specific; a quotation that is inside of another quotation. For example, Mitt Romney's campaign manager said "Yes, it's true that Mitt said 'I would not continue to fund FEMA,' but he really doesn't want anyone to remember that now."
If this seems petty, realize that the news media has already decided that they would play God with the English language and simply remove letters they decided are not needed in order to save space - such as turning "travelling" into "traveling." Sorry, CNN, et al, but this is OUR language, not YOUR language. And you do not get to make up the rules - esp. not when they erode clarity. The media has already eroded it quite enough.
How unspeakably sad it is that it is now regarded as an ANOMALY for the governor of a state that has experienced a disaster to be thinking of himself as a citizen of the United States FIRST and not behave like a rabid dog attacking the president of his own country. The saddest thing in our country right now is that we do not expect and DEMAND civility and RESPECT for the office of the President – no matter who occupies it. If you don't like who's there, and the fact that candidates are being bought and sold by big interests, then WORK to get someone else elected and donate $25 or $50 or $100 to their campaign. It's called DEMOCRACY - use it or lose it.
Like I said we all bleed american. Let this be a time we come together, really together. We are adults and we can show our children compassion, yes we can, a lesson in humility and love for one another.
