Sunday's New York City Marathon called off due to Sandy

The New York City Marathon - scheduled for Sunday - was called off Friday due to lingering effects from Superstorm Sandy, the city's mayor said.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg had said earlier in the week the race would go on - despite transportation, power and other issues - contending, among other things, that businesses could use the economic boost the event provides.

But on Friday, he and the New York Road Runners issued a joint statement saying city officials and race organizers decided to cancel the race because they did "not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants."

UNBELIEVABLE! We've got important issues going on which concern the whole country (e.g. the election, the benghazi attack/cover-up/report, the hurricane that devastated so many American homes & livelihood) and most of the coverage is about whether a marathon should have been cancelled or not???

Yeah you left off republican congress saying NO again to 300 million requested by Pres Obama for embassy security,or the fact that the bush adm.KNEW about the impending attack on sept. 11 and his adm. was so fragmented that NOTHING WAS DONE. I know from the heartless messages from right wingers on here that most of you tea partyers care NOTHING about the people in NY and NJ. Calling tnem "blue state whiners" and worse. Also I see you stated the hurricane horror last! How typical right winger.

Well put...but in an effort to show strength it would've been a sight to see...runners or citizens in general...come together after Sandy.

Obama will lose this election, he is not the President the majority of Americans need, he is however a good minority Leader and motivator, but the minority class in this country are exactly that a { minority} and will do what they always did sit on the sofa all day and get fat. Lets be realistic and not i have a dream BS, it is the middle class that keeps America strong and creates jobs for all classes. If you don't agree you are in denial just like the Obama team, am a business man and sales are down because of his policies and the neglect of our infrastructures and services to small business.

      Yawn.
Let's be realistic here: you're voting for Romney NOT because he's the better candidate, but that he's NOT Obama.
I do not know what business you're supposedly in, but if you write business email's like you wrote this post, it isn't any wonder that business is down.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to liveunder robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Perhaps the New York City Marathon was called off due to Sandy but the dutch organized a holland run in central park,. I believe this not to be respectfull @ all,... If I was in New York I would have helped and surely not run !
