6.8-magnitude quake hits Myanmar

[Updated 5:00 a.m.] At least 13 people have died and 40 more injured, according the charity Save the Children, which operates inside Myanmar.

[Updated 3:45 a.m.]  At least four people died and 25 were injured, according to Myanmar’s Weather Report Department.

[Updated 1:55 a.m.] The U.S. Geological Survey has revised to 6.8 the magnitude of an earthquake that struck north-central Myanmar this morning. The agency previously said it was a magnitude 6.6.

[Updated 11:15 p.m.]  The epicenter was near the town of Shwebo in the Sagaing region, and local journalists have reported no casualties there from the quake that struck at 7:40 a.m. local time (8:10 p.m. ET).

A bridge under construction was destroyed near the small town, they said.  The seismic jolt put cracks in buildings in the country's second largest city of Mandalay and knocked down some pagodas there but caused no major damage or injury, local journalists said.

Shopping districts are temporarily closed, and the authorities are inspecting buildings for damage, they said.

[Posted 20:33 p.m.] A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck north-central Myanmar early Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was reported to be only 6.2 miles deep. The agency originally reported the magnitude to be 7.0 but revised that number downward.

Two 5.0-magnitude aftershocks were reported.

No tsunami warnings were issued, due to the quake's inland location.

In March 2011, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake near Myanmar's borders with China, Thailand and Laos killed at least 75 people. At least 111 people were injured, Myanmar Radio reported.

Daily life is hard for those living in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. A country that was one of the richest in Asia 50 years ago is now one of the poorest.

Yet in your Bible it states that no man knows when he is returning.

So either the Mayans were smarter than God, the Bible lied, or you have no idea what you are talking about. (hint I'll go with #3).

Shane, let me be clear, I have no clue where harry is getting his prophetic information from regarding 40 days left, etc. However, let me correct you on your biblical citation, and you are not alone, I have heard countless, and even famous television preachers misquote scripture on this passage. The Holy Bible does state that no man knoweth the hour, however, that biblical passage is not making reference to knowledge of the rapture, nor the second coming of Christ, but rather when heaven and earth shall pass away. No place in scripture does it state that nobody could no when the rapture would happen and no place in scripture does it state that nobody could know when Christ will return to set up the 1,000 yrs. of peace on earth. The moment when heaven and earth shall pass away cannot be known by man, but only by God the Father because it occurs after we enter into eternity, thus in eternity time no longer is used, and therefore we wouldn't even be able to understand that moment with respect to our time system, because there will be time no more. I hope this helps.

I noticed, but I have the USGS on my homepage, and that happens all the time. They say it's higher or lower very frequently today is no different.

Take me Lord. I am tired of greedy rich people. I am ready. Humans don't deserve this land. Take us all and let the animals have it. I am awaiting.

Those unfortunate steady-working people will not waste time dithering over Mayan predictions or anything else that keeps them from fixing their lives. They would like to eat so they work toward that goal instead of sitting back waiting for a lot of maybes to happen.

Live in truth and God will be comfortable working beside you. That scares .... out of the devil and reduces your worries.

For Zeus´ sake, when can we have an adult exchange about the end of the world? Is it really so difficult to be serious about such a grave matter.Just imagine: no more tv,no more football/baseball/, no more Hollywood, no more getting drunk at weekends, no more fights with your dad/sister/brother/mother,whomever? No more elections,no more...The list just goes on and on.Therefore,I beg you to be just a little bit more substantial, as the actress said to the bishop.

Myanmar Government has to introspect itself. If they want a peaceful life or ethnic cleansing. Nature will balance itself.

Just like in the time of Noah, so shall it be when the Son of Man return. We still have time now to repent and turn away from our evil ways. Submit yourself to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Make him your personal Lord and Saviour
