Israel returns fire into Syria in warning over spillover violence

[Update 10:22 a.m.] Today's firing of warning shots into Syria - in response to apparent spillover violence from the internal conflict in Syria - marks the first time since 1973 that Israel has fired into Syria across the Golan Heights.  After the Yom Kippur War, an international agreement was established between Syria and the Israel, mandated by the United Nations, establishing a demilitarized zone in the region.

Israel's move today came after the fourth time in ten days that the Syrian conflict spilled over into Israel, the Israeli military said.

The complaint Israel filed with the United Nations is the third in the past 10 days.

Syrian tanks entered the Golan Heights demilitarized zone last week and fired into Syria; bullets fired at the tanks in response struck an Israeli military vehicle in part of the Golan Heights that Israel claims as its own. Mortars also fell in part of the Golan that Israel considers its territory.  No one was injured, the Israeli military said.

"“We interpret it as pinpoint leaks into Israel territory," said Avital Leibovich, spokeswoman for the Israeli military.  "It’s totally internal conflict in Syria. We believe that Israel is not the target here. We are looking at either stray bullets or stray mortars."

[Posted 8:05 a.m.] Israel fired warning shots toward Syria today after a mortar shell hit an Israeli military post, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The shell hit an IDF post in the Golan Heights adjacent to the Israel-Syria border, "as part of the internal conflict inside Syria," the IDF said in a statement.  "No damage or injuries have been reported."

Israel has filed a complaint through U.N. forces operating in the area, "stating that fire emanating from Syria into Israel will not be tolerated and shall be responded to with severity," the IDF said.

Do u realise that if it werent for countries like the U.S. then you all would have wiped yourselves out years ago.. So you should praise Allah that you all have something that is worth the attention of the world (oil) so we come to your aid when you all are being massacured or starving .. If you all had any brains at all you would see how Americans always are trying to help. Yeah i will agree that there are some rotten apples within our government but mostly we are always saving you all from some sort of devastation that you always beg the world to help . But it always ends the same way ,once we help you all and we get you set back on your two feet you turn against us. You all are the most backwards people that exsist on this earth and i am convinced that God has put you all here only for his entertainment. You know like he is always sayin what are these crazy Arabs going to do now??You all are like a comedy show to GOD but unfortunatly you all are a plague to the rest of the world .. YOU ARE THE BAD SEED!!!!!

Its hard to believe how biased these CNN articles on Israel are. Yesterday, Palestinians fired more than 30 rockets into Southern Israel and the people there have to live in their small bomb shelters. Yet, for some reason, that never makes the news. Wake up people, the Israelis are just defending themselves!

    1. Israel fired a warning "shot" into Syria, not shots. Great reporting.
    2. The large picture at the top of the story leads you to believe that is is of the Israeli response. This again is wrong.

I have an aquaintence who was born and raised in Israel, and went to college in England. As one of my former bosses told me he served as an Israeli tank driver, and told me he would relinquish his American citizenship if he got called back. Real devotion.

Firstly, I doubt the post because no one has to relinquish American citizenship if they are called upon legally by a country they are citizens of to fight for that country, if the law of that country requires it. As a dual nationale, one is required to abide by the laws of the secondary country, even if that means serving in their military. Secondly, what is the difference between an American, who is called upon to fight in say, Viet Nam, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, which has not attacked US, and an American Israeli who is called upon to fight for Israel which has been attacked? Its a matter of meaning. And when one is willing to sacrifice his or her life for that which has no meaning, then one is faced with a lifetime of wondering about the purpose and meaning of ones own life. Israeli soldiers suffer from PTSD, just like American soldiers, but to a dramatically less extent. Could it be a matter of meaning?

Don't smoke the weed, won't deny that in the past touching it and profiting off both they who do and they who find other means of getting high.
Is your mind a little unwell and needing something other than a narcotic in order to get high?
am not a good man nor a bad man. Rich man nor poor man, not a smart man nor a dumb man; Just a man. And one who thinks that the main reasons for unrest in not just middle east but world is because there are too many that are insane running this assylum called earth.
Not at all unlike a group of lower primates who can peacefully sitting one moment and then because of an argument betwen two others all begin jumping up and down attacking each other uncontrollably and ten seconds later screwing each other contentedly.
Please go back to your perch once again, I do not need your attention.
Wonder what's going on in Israel today?
    Any one know?

They know that the fire was not directed at them, why are they trying to make it about themselves then. They must know that they run a risk of uniting Syrians against them. Stupid!

I don't have a problem with Israel firing a warning shot into Syria, what I have a problem with in Israel settling, and settling again on property that does not belong to them. My son is in the United States Marine Corp to defend THIS great land,. not to subsidized Israel's inability to curb its procreation problem. If you don't have the land to support your people, slow down your breeding. The Palestinian people have a right to a sovereign nation of their own, and Israel is not helping the peace process by crapping on the common Palestinian's right to live out their own life, on their own terms. If Canada occupied US land, US citizens would kill Canadian citizens by the droves, each and ever day until we were free. I voted for Obama, only because he does not kiss the Israeli ass, and I will strongly support any candidate that is as tired as I am of Israel's thumbing their noses at the human rights violations they create every day.

Daryl. God bless you and your son. I too am tired of seeing dead American soldiers fighting for Israel and the interests of Energy conglomerates. I am sick and tired of having every US Presidential candidate have to visit Israel and swear allegiance to Israel. I am sick and tired of people like Rahm Emanuel who made his money and his career in this country yet he went and served in the IDF. It makes no sense to me.

Where Jews will have to relent their own beliefs and worship a different form of GOD or face the wrath of their rightousness conquering host and be destroyed.
