Emboldened rebels fighting to hasten the fall of Syria's regime set their sights on the capital, Damascus, as diplomats went into high gear amid concerns over chemical weapons.
"Our country will be free, we have no one but God," protesters rallying against President Bashar al-Assad chanted on Friday outside the capital in Douma. "The glad tidings are coming."
The war for control of Damascus is being waged in its suburbs, where rebel forces say the casualty count has increased in recent days. And so has talk of a turning point in Syria's 21-month civil war.

Something tells me the "end" is near for the Assad regime. Lets just hope it's not the end for the Syrian people as well. There are just to many "self interests" involved to allow a coherent state government to arise from the ashes of this chaotic "revolution"!
While watching Erin Burnett regarding the Syria Strike conversation at 7:16 EST, the guest correspondent guy basically lays out how to make VX.... shouldn't people just be mum on this idea. I realize the chemistry is much more complex and technical in its delivery etc but seriously why even give any info on....
Russia must sand more inteligange and undercover fighters to terminate the Assad regime ASAP
@the phophet, yah and why should we believe that after they've been selling them all the military hardware including the chemicals for the saren gas..Russia and China don't want Syrias demise because its the money and oil that both would benefit from if they stay allies, read between the lines guy!!Why do you think Russia may be one of Assads future vacation destinations, think hard ,you know I'm right!!
@Pete....Most of what you say is true....However Russia does not need to import oil. They are an exporting nation....With Syria, as a diplomatic favor, they import a small amount, refine it and for a fee send it back for use by the Assad regime!
good morning to you @ saywhat. Just post garbage, that seems to go thru with no problem.
Not me at 1:02 pm.
Not me @7:19.
Actually, if you were with your husband, that statement would be *true* lol
Good afternoon banasy
For a FACT, this is by no means a news blog anymore, but a *circus* blog...
Good day all
Sounds great, but I no order no pizza pie at 1:04.
It's been twenty one months of war for this country. I hoping the rebels get into the capital and this ends. I think Assad is in a lot of trouble. I real question is what happens to the chemical weapons. Who's hands do they fall in? I couldn't imagine fighting block by block in my neighborhood. It's a good sign when the military keeps defecting.
Well of course they will fall into the rebels hands. And then there will be chaos like youve never seen before.
@Pete i don't agree with you Russia does want Syria just like the US wants part of the Middle East too, Iran is waiting for the US to interfere in Syria so that Russia and Iran can go to war against the US
